And I haven't even starting training yet! Now for my next newbie questions:
    1. Can DMV offices provide MVR's from different states? In other words, can I walk into a DMV and ask for a 7 year report that involves other state licenses?

    2. Does anyone know any Community Colleges in hopefully not so God awful freezing temp with icy roads to take training that also have housing? Not at all interested in CDL mills that are only interested in cranking out half trained morons and putting them behind the wheel not caring if they kill people on the road.

    3. Most of the Community Colleges I've visited online are starting Jan 8 and I'm guessing since I'll only have this week to finish up paperwork, DOT, take the CLP, acquire a MVR, and such, that date probably isn't even feasible. Therefore, I'd like to find one that's pushed back a bit to allow that. I know it's a tall order but wondering if it can be done. I want to get started ASAP but as an ex school bus driver, I'm all about safety and want to do things the right way without putting others in harm's way. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm in southwest Florida but I can go anywhere if they have housing available that isn't off the charts expensive or can be added to student loan. Problem is, since this is happening around the holidays, I can't even check with any schools until they resume session which is Tuesday Jan 2. But regardless where I go, even in Florida would probably need housing to keep from having to make a very long commute everyday.

I would do my training in the cold and on icy roads. You are a Florida boy. Nothing wrong with that, excwpt you have probably never seen snow before, let alone drive in it. What are you going to do when you are in Kansas, in a blinding snow storm with no place to pull over? You need all the cold weather experience you can get.

Female here. Not trying to make any undo distinction saying I'm mush because of my gender, I was just stating that, since you assumed otherwise.

Anyway, I live in Florida NOW but used to be a school bus driver in Missouri where there was plenty of bad weather. Although schools get called off on those days, occasionally it would happen mid day and the afternoon route could get interesting especially on secondary streets and in subdivisions which had a lot of cars parked on the roads.

The reason for wanting this is because I would like to first get comfortable driving a rig and then ease into the more difficult aspects gradually. Not do both at the same time and hope for the best.

My apologies on the gender thing.

The rest of it, I can understand that. My point is the more exposure you have, the better off gou will be. Most of the steering wheel holders out here crap their pants at one snow flake falling. Me, being an Ohio boy, I was okay with it.

So, as a newb that hasn't even done training yet (which means your not even a newb, your a wannabe) in your professional opinion a Community College will do a better job cranking out a "half trained moron" than a "CDL mill"?

As a person who went to a cdl mill and failed, but then passed at a trucking school, wasnt a cc as they didnt have other classes, but wasnt no cdl mill either, I can attest that private trucking schools are 100 times better than the cdl mills.
