I don't get it. The original property still seems to be in tact for the most part. And the trashy two-bit Pilot survives? WTF? I never cared for that truck stop anyway and it doesn't surprise me they could not find suitable area nearby to rebuild (that would allow a truck stop and be priced fairly)

Nothing to trkdrivers but to theDOT it means everything.DOT should have at least had a little compassion for the trucking industry and build a truck parking area but like everyone else they could care less.

If it is that one truckstop I recall well.. that's literally burying part of our history. It's NOT the best truckstop, but it was there and useful when we needed it.

I see the roundabout that was installed not long ago. That was not there in my time.

Toss that one onto the pile.

To try to make up for the loss of traveler services, VDOT sent the business owner information on six parcels in the corridor large enough to support a new travel center — three in Elliston, two in Dublin and one in Augusta County.

Virginia has a long history of screwing with Truckers. Started back in the 90s if I remember when they stopped truckers from parking overnight in rest areas.
I would think that a truckers advocacy group should start a move to push for legislation in transportation bills REQUIRING states and municipalities to figure out safe parking areas.
I would support a truckers advocacy group that did that instead of spending money and fighting to keep things the same ol same ol.

Stop trying to make the DOT something they are not. In my thought process it appears that it is not the DOTs problem to make sure we have warm showers and cuddly blankets every night. On the flip side however, it is the DOTS responsibility to make sure in future travel years, that roadways are built to handle future capacity. Truckstops and places with history, well anything and everything for that matter are not immune to the future.

I think you had to much tomato soup pattyj, your trying to connect the illuminati to tearing down a truckstop to make way for road improvements. Thats cute, but really sillllllly......
