What if Bob found a company that required no training and just handed him the keys and he died in a horrible wreck hours later?

LTI Trucking out of St Louis MO will take trainees. The time out could be few days to a few weeks, depending on your ability. I was only out like 5 days.

I am removing them from a good company. Drivers once removed from their "New Driver Board " miles crash to about 1400 milesa week, twice they have lostmy hometime request.

you should be exempt of having to go with a trainer as you have previous experience. A road test should suffice. Sending drivers with a trainer is just to generate bigger revenue for company.

Jazz this thread is 7 years old. The OP hasn't been seen on the board in 4 years.

Well I'll play, I love me some dead threads.

A friend of mine started driving through North American's summer fleet program back in the 90's. He said when they cut him loose he had about 10 hours behind the wheel. 20 something years later nothing bad happened. Some people are just naturally better at this than others.

Yes the thread is old, but not the subject matter. Honestly some company's don't stress this enough and some way too much. I do think a new CDL holder should run with someone for a while though. If for anything to help a new hire with QC macros.

Yea I had little trouble driving the truck. But remembering those #### macros, OMFG. I'd be all excited that I knew where to go and what to do, I'd hop in the truck, hook up to the trailer and roll. Didn't do the arrived at shipper, didn't do the loaded call, didn't do the vehicle inspection (on the qualcomm, I did the physical inspection) and then didn't even get the BOL from the office. Why? Because I didn't really pay that much attention to those macros during training I just wanted to make sure not to wreck the truck. Come to find out they are important and you get mean calls from dispatch when you fail to do them.

I like how my company tells me it's going to be done. I train in the yard for a week. Getting everything down, including the pneumatic trailer operation. Then I go on the road with a trainer. It stops when I say so. When I'm comfortable.
I am more critical of myself than many can comprehend.
I did rate 100% in basic control skills at school. But still, I know I don't have the orientation of that trailer behind me that I should have. I really don't have my autonomic mind trained so I can take in many thoughts/points of view at the same time, resulting in one operation of driving that truck. I seriously do need to take it slow and careful. Take the time to take everything in. I'm having to think about everything right now.
I just hope I get somebody who's good. I will definitely tax him to learn all I can.
