I agree...drivers' pay is next. Or, in some cases, already axed. Remember, these companies can cut truckers pay in many ways. Cut the truck speed limit from 65 to 55 is a MAJOR pay cut.

Its a shame the FMCSA did not include this in there RIA, with there latest round of rules. They seem to regulate everything else we do, #### them, LoL.

Why wouldn't you talk about pay? There is such a disparity between companies and drivers in pay that it is most certainly a subject that needs addressed. Besides that are pay issues for paid-by-the-mile drivers who are sitting around somewhere, waiting to get a load, and getting paid nothing for that time they are waiting - almost always never anywhere near home. Pay is such a huge issue in the trucking industry, your statement really makes no sense.

That was in reponse to the oh that's just what we need are more steering wheel holders only out here for a paycheck comment. I took offense to that, and that's what I was replying to.

Even with the influx of new drivers, their is the issue of competition to hire experience drivers.

The trucking companies are bound by the reuls of their insurance companies as to who and what they hire for drivers. Consider the amount of new drivers every year........How many recieve moving violations..... How many have accidents...........How many can't survive on the actual money they are making as a new driver........How many (as mentioned above) families can't survive......

If an OTR driver starts out new and survives to 2 years thru these aspects and still want to drive companies struggle to find them and need them.

Now consider this as part of the reason........A TRAINING Co. trains new drivers.....They have higher vehicle insurance that runs into the millions. And also the aftemath of an accident with the higher % of accidents small and large.

Percentage wise a company with more experienced drivers from the start will not have as much to have to deal with. So, this plays in to the insurance costs that are lower and litigations are reduced which is the highest actors of accidents.

that means hey can and have to pay competitively for experienced drivers.

Their are so many factors to list, we all really truly know if we honestly took time to consider. Those of us who are O/O's and those who have business managment experience know from experience of managing costs balancing Profits/Losses have to make decissions of where and how to make it work for the best interest of the company........

Now acknowledging that all companies do not do the right thing by their employees, it is up to the decissions of the managers and owners to do what is in the best ineterest of the companies.

When you consider factoring in greed, compassion and proper training of managers you experience the down side of all of these aspects for an employee..........:biggrin_2558:

Sigh, I might be a new driver and roehl had to pay more insurance for me to change careers and hire on with them, but I still take offense to a trucker wife calling me nothing but another steering wheel holder. Some people just don't know what they are talking about on here.

I would say not. Alot of people who get laid off from work wouldn't consider truck driving as a career. All of them can get unemployment for six months to a year. Their will be some but not what you think.

OK.........and what about after 6 months.........do you really think it is that easy to get a job with the way things are out here.

I know freinds who have degrees and have a hard tme finding work. Considering that alot of the people who have worked for a single company for 5-10-15-20 years and more who that is all they know. Those who never considerd getting training in something or even needed it for their jobs.

Something the economists are not factoring in their numbers and everyone please consider this...............
    *******************************************************
Unemployment numbers are NOT accurate of the amount of people who are trully unemployed. The reported numbers are only existing recipiants and new applicants of unemployment.............

These numbers DO NOT count people who's benefits have run out or who are not eligible or denied for benefits.

Their are plenty of people working for small companied who are not eligible or have been self employed or who have been working off of the books.

My boys are finally old enough to pretty much be self sufficient so now the wifes coming out with me, problem was where im at now wont hire w/o exoperience so were going elsewhere and take it from there. with the cutbacks in the economy, people are getting into this business, and due to the economy the overall freight is slowing down. more trucks less freight. and tomorrow it will be a different picture all together one way or another truckers survive
