Engine fan stays on all the time.
Fan clutch is only 7 months old. Moves in/out when firing up so seems to be working properly.
Disconnected air to fan clutch but fan is still on.
Possible broken wire and/or ground? Sensor?
*Separate issue is headlights.
Daytime running headlights stay on all night if running engine, even though they're switched off (it's -40 Celsius in Canada sometimes so I'll run it).
Doesn't happen all the time. I know they're staying on when the Park light on the dash doesn't come on.
Also, light for climate controls came on the other night for me, that hasn't happened in months. Pulled maxis and went off again, I guess for another few months now.
Thanks for any advice in advance.

Engine fan issue sounds like high side a/c switch failure. It is the switch with the green plastic top on it located on passenger side a/c line near top of radiator. You can use 9/16 wrench to remove. You do not have to remove freon from system. 2 minute job. Freightliner part#06-35209-000 or airsource #1324. Common failure part.
-
Thank you for that...I'll check it out later today when I'm parked.
-
So the fan needs air to it turn the fan off? And solenoid cuts the air when it's told engine is getting hot enough to turn the fan back on?
-
Correct. When solenoid letting air to fan=fan off. Several ways for solenoid to close. Engine temperature is one. High a/c pressure is another. Usual dead give away for bad a/c switch is fan is off for a few seconds after engine start then fan engages as you stated in your description. That little bit of info. supplied by customer can be the difference in getting charged extra for diagnostic labor. Good job.

Solenoid is letting air through to fan so that's good.
Having a difficult time locating the a/c high pressure sensor though. Found a green capped plug with the other side being a blue capped plug beside/behind a/c compressor...don't see anything up by the rad on the line. I Also found what looks like a sensor screwed into the back of the a/c compressor with 2 red wires that sort of circle back around to the green cap and blue cap plugs that I mentioned.
There is also what looks like a plug on the high side a/c on the firewall passenger side with orange wires with R-12 stamped on it...looks like I'd lose the Freon if I undo that though.
I'll post pics.
Thanks again. -
Was in to talk to the dealer today...so that high side a/c sensor is that one I posted a pic of on the firewall.
He says when I unplug it and turn it to face me, there will be 2 prongs underneath on each side. To test it with motor running, I have to jump them across from each side and if the fan stops, the plug is the issue.
Supposing for the cost of the sensor, I could just as well replace with new...don't know a heck of a lot about electrical and jumping wires.
But if the fan keeps running after jumping, we need to look deeper...wonder what that next step will be -
Crap!! So sorry. Am used to working on Freightliner. Forgot we were in WS forum! Your picture is of high side switch. Disregard previous part # that I posted. Rule of thumb that I posted still applies though! I am confident that switch is your issue. Good luck.
-
No problem at all. I'll pull the switch off in the morning and see how it goes.
Thanks again. -
So, replaced the a/c high pressure switch, fan still runs all the time.
What's next I wonder.
