They're alot better at building them than maintaining them

Guys don't think for one second that the government builds roads for us like its a gift. We pay the money, the government just distributes it. Fuel taxes pay for roads in the same way property taxes pay for schools. Income tax goes towards the national debt and so on. In this industry we don't get any handouts. When it comes to roads and road construction, the amount of money taken in does not reflect on how the roads actually are. We should have excellent roads and no tollways, but as with everything else the government takes your money and redistributes it wherever it wants, it would be naïve to think that they actually do what they say with our money.

Prior to income tax or road taxes: there were roads.

Doesn't help when NY state turns over the money we pay in tolls on the thruway to the canal department instead of maintaining the road

Sure there were, but they were called "trails". Back then people got around on horses or wagons pulled by horses & mules.

Roads in 1925, 4 years prior to prohibition, which lead to the "need" for the income tax.

Actually that is not true. Prior to 1913 Americans kept all of their pay. We had paved roads, rail, Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. We also won several wars and had a growing Telecom system.
What we did not have was a welfare system designed to enslave the population.

You really want to make a useful app? Partner with different fuel card providers who send their list of fuel prices across the nation every morning and update your app daily. Not many of us pay the cash price. And the discounts are not usually a flat rate below cash price. They vary. Every day.

Also have a field where driver can input average fuel economy. And perhaps a maximum distance between fuel stops.

Those of us saving a lot on fuel have it figured out. It just takes a little more effort, but is well worth the reward. Generally speaking the same stops are winners every time.
