Trucks older than 2000 are a pita to look up. Comes up with three drawings by your VIN. This was closest to what you described...

I would clear my mind and do this. Get an ohm meter with a tone. Unplug the turn signal switch. Draw out the plug and number the terminals. Turn on the left turn and make notes on the connected terminals. Center the switch and find out what other terminal is connected to one of those, make notes. Turn on the right signal and do the same. They should both have a common connector in the neutral position. That should be the feed from the brake light switch. Check your truck harness plug and find the supply from the brake switch. These two must connect. The spades can be removed from the plugs and relocated, just do the ones on the switch plug. Do not get confused with the trailer light circuits that also use this switch. There should be a second common terminal for each signal when they are turned on. That should be the supply from the flasher. Use something that draws a little current like a 4412 bulb. Ground one side and touch the other to the truck harness plug terminals one at a time. When it flashes that is the turn supply wire and must connect to the other.
Now plug the connectors back together. Turn the signals and brakes on to see what happens. It surely will not be all good but then take your 4412 back to connector if necessary. You should have two wires hot with the brakes applied that cut out and flash with the R and L signal. Connect them to the rear lights as necessary.
The 4412 is because a single tail or test light way not be enough draw for the flasher to operate.
GRN right turn. Y left turn. Red brakes. brn tail lights.
All from memory and open for correction.

    greaseburner Thanks this.
