I definitely hit the jackpot when I landed this job here at transport national. So many jobs with several garbage companies, I wish I'd had found these guys sooner.

I'm an owner operator, sometimes I might make 10 calls before I finally find the one I really want.
You'll be alright.born&raisedintheusa, Just passing by and Voyager1968 Thank this. -
With that experience, and driving record, something will pop. Give it a month or so.
DoubleO7, born&raisedintheusa and Voyager1968 Thank this. -
Sign up with a temp agency that hires cdl-A drivers. This way you can change jobs as often as you want and it isn't job hopping because you work for the temp agency, not the company you're driving for. I did that one time and had a good experience.
You might drive for 10 different companies in a year, but your employment record only shows the temp agency because they're the ones paying you.tscottme, born&raisedintheusa, QuietStorm and 4 others Thank this. -
19 years at this. Would’ve had a total of 2 companies had things stayed like they were way back when. Went with Schneider Natl and lasted 3 months because of my running partner. Moved on to Tyson Foods and stayed 7 years before they sold the plant I drove out of to Koch Foods. Stayed there 6.5 more. Got tired of that and went with Osborn Transportation out of Rainbow City Al (worst company ever. has since been purchased by Celedon). 9 months of their garbage was enough. Now back with Tyson. Wish I had stayed with them after the sale. Would have 18 year in with them. Instead I’m starting year 12. This will be my last driving job unless something unforeseen happens.

I went through 5 companies in my first year, hated them all, no problem getting hired anywhere. I never understood this advice of sticking it out 1 year if you aren't happy at a company. Ultimately, my 1 year experience being a company driver and being told how to wipe my ### is why I bought my own truck.

I have had the pleasure seeing many companies implode when they ought to. Although knowing now what I did not know or learn back then, I think it's really tragic. It would take many years before I hit on what I would call a gold mine or a gravy train in freighting. And think what could have been if I discarded all that spinning wheels and trouble and just hired on to the gravy train in the beginning.
I am also glad that I did not go with megas, JB Hunt would have been my last OTR employer and only for three weeks. Part of the problem was I was issued a COE and took out a car again... Just like I told the recruiter what will happen with the COE, when they had a herd of conventionals parked in the storage area in Prothro Junction. I decided to quit and go to college which was a adventure of itself. Im glad I did. At least gave it a go. What I should not have done was hired on to JBH taking a COE. That's going against myself and my belief that I will keep taking out cars with them. I learned that much. Just needed a few more knots on my own head. Ha....
Edit: I don't see anymore problem with COE, the 2009 eye surgery I had allowed the vision to improve in that portion of the space below the drivers window next to the steer axle. So that's no longer a problem. Even then I'll just stay with a conventional thank you lol. It's a challenge in the auction house when I have to drive houses, RV's that are totally huge now and then around and close to other very expensive things and people.born&raisedintheusa Thanks this.
