I have 10 years experience and I had these passed 2 years local as a favor from my boss so i could go back to school. He passed away in September and now Im in week 3 with Schneider.

I know better for sure, but I needed to get my work history together and get my foot back in the door quick.

1st week I hit FL and pulled empties for 3 days and barely broke 400 miles.

Week 2 that ####in parksmart ######## wouldn't keep the truck warm while im in Illinois and I ended up sitting at the OC for several days.

I finally got my check for week 1 and it was $300.

Now im up in the NE and its ridiculous. Not 1 load or pre assigned they've put on me was gonna be on time. They are usually already late by the time I get them.

So im asking, are these big companies always like this? Should I go ahead and jump ship?

Im used to putting miles behind me like nobody's business.

I have flatbed experience and minimal heavy experience.

Im just having a hard time hunting the ma and pa companies.

I dont mind relocating and I typically stay out 3-8 months at a time. But this has felt like a waste from the jump.

I know its slow right now, but somethin just feels off.

Communication is awful, that whole ETA/NAT thing is a joke. How am i supposed to predetermine jack #### if I got 6 stops and 2 of them have to be subbed out after I get there and am told nobody is allowed to drop anymore? I got 1 load offer for 1300 all in one go, never told me it would be a relay. I did get to chew 900 or so off the ### end but still. Ive noticed relays are a big thing with them.

    Are teams doing any better?
I keep hearing I should have applied dedicated but after the bait and Switch at JB Hunt I figured I save myself the bs and just apply for OTR, but this #### feels like a cross between regional and Fedex home delivery.

Idk what to think. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

All the mega-carriers suck, get your own truck and lease onto Landstar or Mercer, you have the experience.

    Those two quotes belong together.

I spent 14 months with Werner, cutting my teeth. Wasn't until about month 10 / 11, under my 4th dispatcher (they changed randomly.... I didn't request it), that I started getting 1200+ mile runs I could keep as a SOLO Driver. A few would knock back 1800. But I've seen, waited in, slept in, so many drop yards... Lol. Still got 'em written down in the back of my old TS Guide.

I applied at RGT and ill hear back monday. As for Leasing my own truck, im a bit apprehensive about that. Ive heard horror stories and I have no credit either. I watched my boss kill himself trying to be independent.

Knight transportation has a great terminal in GA. they always kept me rolling. just demand a decent truck. I got tired of switching trucks and seeing check engine lights. that's why I left.

Check out Britton Transport. It is a smallish company (116 trucks I think). They treat me well and I get good runs. I'm in the flatbed division (28 trucks last I heard) but they also do van and reefer. Best wishes!

    Good choice; Britton Transport.
Texas and Nevada are good states to relocate to; no state personal income taxes in those two states, plus no food taxes in Nevada.
