No great loss, they haven't made a good truck engine since the 1693

Cummins has not made a decent motor in........ hmmm, EVER! The big cams were a joke, the N14 was a improved version of that joke, and the isx is a waste of iron. Detroit? yes the 8V were awesome engines :biggrin_25526:, the series 60 was better but no powerhouse and dont expect it to run for ever. DD15..... HA with all the crap on it we'll see.

Cat engines are over priced and under powered. The 1693 was an over weight hunk of iron and cat new it .The 550 Cat is over rated a good Cummin's will pull the wheels off it and leave it's tongue hanging out. The ISX is the only way to go.

I do know the '07 C-15 ACERT (no regen system) in my T600 is proving itself to be a worthless pile. Less than 180,000 on it and here's what I've dealt with so far...

    121k: Fan clutch replacement.

132k: Electrical harness fried itself leaving me with no power coming down I-70 into Denver. That was fun.

138k, 151k: Multiple studs snapping on the small turbo's manifold flange, eventually leading to a manifold replacement after they got tired of drilling studs out of it.

Since 162k: Perpetual check engine light that will go away for a day and come back. It's not storing any codes so the dealer is stumped.

179k: Just started eating coolant to the tune of 1gal/1000mi. I have to stop every couple days and add coolant or it will get mad and shut itself off going down the road. And it only takes up to 1.5gal at a time. This is very unsafe out in the hills; everytime i'm headed downhill it senses low coolant and it's a contest to see if i can get going uphill again before it kills the motor.

Since I've had it: 5.8-6.0 mpg regardless of how it's driven. Shameful in a T600, really. I could be loaded with 44,000 going through PA at 70mph and get the same mpg as with a 10,000lb load going through OH at 57mph. It boggles my mind.

I understand some break-in and teething issues but I think this motor is crap.

Spoke with an o/o who pulls cars with his N14 rated at 435 in his VN770. Loves it and he gets 7.0mpg w/o any doodling. My friend who has a c15 gets 5.9 with the power pack. Yes cats are good but with them leaving the market, cummins might be the way to go.

(121k: Fan clutch replacement.) Isn't that a Paccar item?
(132k: Electrical harness fried itself leaving me with no power coming down I-70 into Denver. That was fun.)Was it the Cat engine harness or the Kenworth truck harness?
(138k, 151k: Multiple studs snapping on the small turbo's manifold flange, eventually leading to a manifold replacement after they got tired of drilling studs out of it.) They have an update for that,I think its under warranty.
(Since 162k: Perpetual check engine light that will go away for a day and come back. It's not storing any codes so the dealer is stumped.) Replace the VVA pressure sensor.
(179k: Just started eating coolant to the tune of 1gal/1000mi. I have to stop every couple days and add coolant or it will get mad and shut itself off going down the road. And it only takes up to 1.5gal at a time. This is very unsafe out in the hills; everytime i'm headed downhill it senses low coolant and it's a contest to see if i can get going uphill again before it kills the motor.) Check for leaks.

    Any more problems?

I know a guy that has a Signature 600.Well,he wanted to replace all his injectors, called Cummins, they have only 1 injector any more, they quit making them, and he has to spend $4500 American to update his wiring harness, fuel and timing actuators so he can replace injectors.Yep,way to go alright.
