Yeah, they are usually the fall guy for the dispatchers. It was usually a combination of both

It’d be company driver, no mechanical know how to get into O/O. Great point about % vs mileage, as far as I can tell % is the way to go with few exceptions. Proven Billed Freight is a new term to me, is this basically an average freight value? A figure TMC should be able to provide / guarantee?

So these are key questions- forced vs unforced dispatch, proven billed freight, and whether you can move up the % ladder as promised.

I'm in SW Michigan, Bangor. Within reach of Grand Rapids, South Bend, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo and right on the I94 / I90 thoroughfare.

@Chinatown Just spoke with a recruiter at Century, they're big on teams apparently. Said I'd be out with a copilot for up to a year after training. Seems like a good company, family owned, good equipment, well maintained, small fleet 30+ trucks and growing, 4 wk training $500 / wk, pays 38c out of the gate split with the other driver, mostly GM cargo, mostly no touch, no NE runs, 8-10d out 2d home, detention pay, extra stop pay. Like I said, seems like a good company, just personally not interested in doing teams for longer than I have to, thought I'd share the info for those looking.

You don't pick your loads so you are forced dispatched. your percentage of pay will vary based upon your average of what the loads pay, out of route, idle time, and other factors. I stayed around 32 % being the highest at the time. When the newbie fleet manager took over I went from 32 to 28% In a months time. So when I stopped doing all the things I needed to get to 32% it went back up to 30%. Crazy! The thing is you only control getting from point a to point b and sometimes you don't have that. If you do your job well you will be ok however, your only going to make what they let you make.

You live up there, you'll be running steel like no other, us steel, republic steel, ak steel, Worthington steel, north star blue scope, you'll get tired of running steel, and unless their rates have gone up, your paychecks won't be real spectacular

Good to know. Heard a similar story from someone down in Kansas I think it was who never had high dollar loads, was just the nature of his particular route. I've also been warned against hauling steel just starting out given my reflexes aren't yet developed. A guy down in South Bend was telling me a horror story about a steel load killing a young driver, said the headache rack is just welded on like everything else, doesn't offer any real protection. Thoughts?
