I have been at Fremont Contract Carriers for almost 8 years now. Doing well. By the house a couple times a week, off on weekends and holidays, and take a few weeks off thru the year. I am set up as an LLC with an S Corp tax structure. I pay myself a salary of $750 a week (average annual income of truck drivers in my state per the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics), and all profits by the operation after that also come to me. My business net (after payroll) so far this year is at roughly $40K. So I pay myself about $39K a year, and I have a net of roughly $40K this year so far on top of that. And that is after I have paid for medical insurance (paid thru my business stuff) and before I get to reduce the tax burden further with all the meal allowance, mortgage interest, depreciation and other stuff.

And how all this might relate to someone is relative. I live in a very low cost of living part of the country, so that income is very good. Twice the average income for workers in my state and about half of what the average doctor income is for my state. And I can buy 3x or more home and land for the same money as many have to pay in more expensive parts of the country. For Frisco, what I make might be making chump change. For my area, I am living quite well, better than I deserve.

and like most jobs in driving.... where you live matters!!!! i am home most nights, but my load terminal is close, the customer consignee are 30% driving past my house so i can take that preload home the day before. and if i am out its a night or two... not weeks.... but i still get paid like a big rigger!!! i can essentially make the same money sleeping in my bed at home as i can on the road, but the competition for those gravy runs is stiffer.

for many drivers... they simply dont have the opportunities because of either their location or the shipper receiver locations.

Im leased to a company out of chicago illinois ....run from il to wa or ca( 4000 mill for 2 trips).net evry 8 to 9 days 4 to 6k after expenses...no trailler rental but i paid for insurance ( bobtail and liability 1000 dollars) i get 78% of gros ...loads camings from illinois to wa or ca paid very low 3000 to 3500 (78% of that is around 2574 etc....fuel cost around 1100 tgat left me whit 1500..) but caming back from wa or ca its were i alsways get back good rate 6000 to 8000 sometime gros ...and 78% are 5 to 6 k before fuel ..

With all due respect. Please don't be confused. You can give yourself any title you wish, but if you are running under someone else authority and if you don't see the confirmations........you are not an O/O, period!!! so, stop confusing new guys here.
The owner of the big companies own you! you drive your truck for the real owners. so you are a driver with more responsibilities, that is all.

I did a google search one time on average LS O/O revenues an net that was available from some financial information investigative services. those were averages, so some are better off and some worse. See nothing with LS that would appeal to me. I am leased on with a carrier. My gross last for the last 3 years has hovered around $200K, and my net last year was over $80K. And I stop by the house a couple of times a week, take weekends/holidays off, and take 3-4 weeks off a year. I finally set up an LLC with a S Corp tax structure to reduce the amount of taxes I pay. On target to save me over $8000 this year. I get substantial fuel discounts, like 71 cents off the cash pump price when I fueled yesterday at Love's in Gary, IN. And I don't have to file or pay IFTA stuff. The carrier does all of that for me. And they provide the plates and registration, no fees for permits or using their trailers, and pay for all toll road charges. Only fee they mandate is the $10 a week for the Qualcomm, and there wasn't a install fee or deposit. I do get my various insurance needs thru the carrier, since they have some very good rates, but I have my own BCBS medical insurance. And if I sit at a customer for more than 2 hrs, then I get $38 an hour. Made $1500 in one month from just that last November out of 3 delay occurrences from 2 customers. I am usually booked 1 to 2 loads in advance while still hauling the current load. Almost always go home on the weekend with a load.

I can't say that my company is the best, its definitely not, but I am very hard working and motivated dispatcher
I own a small fleet and looking for good owner operator on dry van
dispatch 10% ( we use factoring and that is included in 10%)
we send confirmation right away
I being driving 6 years myself and understand drivers needs and problems ( I know what is bear or chicken house 10.4
no contract except usual sub-contractor agreement, providing fuel cards, help with breakdowns ( negotiating price for repairs)
you got your money every week ( we hold 2 last loads as a deposit)
I can help to fight any moving violation in any state
can help to repair or build credit history
we have AOBRD ( similar to pre 1998 trucks )
Prices on a loads has dropped a little but we always run 2$/mi+
English is my second language, sorry if some of that sound weird

EDIT: I plan on running either van or tanker depending on which ever company offers the most. I'll run whererver pays the most in the states and I want to be able to pick my own loads.
