    if you run over your 70 hrs is it possible to take a 30 min break and then be legal to drive again after the 30 min break?

    Now, IF, (And a big if) you run out of hours at 23:30 and are getting back enough to matter at midnight, then yes.
    Also, if that happens, go buy a lottery ticket....

    How is that a trick question?

    If you run over 70 hrs and take a 10 hr break, if you have nothing coming, you still cant drive.
    You cant drive beyond 70 to begin with. So you cant even drive no matter what you do till hours come back by reset or recap.

    Yes if you stopped at 23:30 for 30 minutes and picked up hours at midnight, but the violation still happened and still remains.
