some 15years ago we had evaporator units that will spray water on fan, problem was if there is not good humidity. 3rd part suppliers
at same time some truck manufactuers made factory air conditions that is like battery, it collects energy from trucks cooling, you need to run it like 2h to have AC for 6-7hours.
latter they made 3rd part, AC that works on electrics use about 8-10A per hour.
from late 2015 mb offer factory AC on electric, scania offer it too since summer 2016. dont know for volvo -
I idle as much for ac as I do heat.....
Day cab operator..... no living in the truck home every night.
When I’m waiting to load or unload I’m 100% comfortable.....Last edited: Jan 28, 2018

No, never went there. Maybe one day.
Next trips will most probably be Russia, Tanzania or South Korea.Cat sdp Thanks this. -
I have webasto and a tripac gen for AC , we have had them for many years , were not the cave men you like to think we are , but company drivers don’t have these luxuries many times and idling is limited by many companies and local jurisdictions
spyder7723, Oxbow and Cat sdp Thank this. -
As far as disc brakes , give me a brake (pun intended) all the cars I’ve ever owned have had disc brakes at least on the front , and when disc brakes have wide spread availability on big trucks , I will gladly order a truck with them , until then I’ll use my perfectly available and dependable drum brakes
Oxbow Thanks this. -
Might want to postpone South Korea for a little while......

We have had ABS mandatory since '97. We've had disc brakes for probably that long or longer too. In my experience, disc brakes don't typically survive off the pavement. Dirt just chews the discs up in no time.
I can't speak for anything else since I have no experience with them. I do know I have those fancy proximity sensors on my pickup for backup assistance and they suck. All it takes is some road grime over them and they stop working.
I look at this new stuff as just more crap to go wrong and it only serves to dumb down the skills needed to operate a vehicle. People don't even shoulder check in their cars any more because the little yellow light on the mirror says if there is a car there or not.
