Another thing to consider I brought him over from CRST. The average mileage rate he sees from me is roughly $0.54 per mile on all miles. What he was doing solo work with them because he did not have a teammate, his mileage pay was only $0.24 per mile. he is more than doubled his mileage pay. If someone wants to call me cheap, fine, let them pay more. He goes home when he wants he stays out as long as he wants. He gets paid on time every time for the work he's done.

"Appreciation for those that keep me employed"? What you talking about? It's a business transaction. Plain and simple. They don't keep us employed because they are nice and like us very very much.
I may as well say they should appreciate ME making them money.
Now if I get ALL the net profit from the truck then yes,I will appreciate them very very much.

    Interesting read
You expect to find a reliable driver for $1600 gross a week.
You pay percentage, right? What else do you offer?
    Layover, detention, vacation pay?
    Health insurance? 401k with match?
I'm just wondering what would attract me to switch my job?
$1600 sounds not too bad for a rookie, but not for an experienced and reliable driver who knows his job if there are no other benefits.

diesel drinker and ZVar Thank this.

$83,000/yr. gross as a company driver is beneath you? Good to know.
Yes, I do offer vacation after 1 year as well as a Christmas bonus based on longevity.

    Oxbow and Coover Thank this.

Average 12% deadhead??? Heck, I'd think I died and went to heaven if I could get my deadhead that low. I average about 35% deadhead. Many a time I've deadheaded up to 1000 miles to get to high paying freight. Even when I drove another man's truck on percentage he let me call the shots. Instead of focusing on running a lot of miles, I focus on maximizing revenue per week. I average about 2000 miles per week.

So you are going to guarantee 1600 a week 52 weeks a year? No bad weeks, no break downs? Be realistic at least

Sorry, but I made $60000+ last year working about 9.5 months, had lots of days off.
My health insurance is $65 weekly for a family, if I would have to buy my own insurance I would have to pay about $1500 a month as a smoker with the same benefits. Deduct the difference from your $83000 then I'm at $68800 for a full years work, in 9.5 months that would be $54470. And still have no vacation pay or any other perks.
I just want to show you that you will have a hard time to find a driver that is reliable, experienced, works his butt off for you. Not every company is a mega and offers low cpm's. And not only the cpm makes the money, it's the benefits too.

I guarantee I will do everything I can to make sure my drivers are earning as much as possible. But hey go ahead and be a smart-### about it I really don't care.
And people wonder why employers get so jaded and tired of dealing with some drivers.
