i was behind a schnieder this morning driving through the quiet little town of wyoming ny. i watched a schnieder truck take a corner like a car. it was an easy corner. nearly took out the stop sign. very amateur driving. doesnt he know that he has to pull straight ahead before making the turn, then make the turn and watch your tandems in the mirror. a few days prior i was stuck behind a werner truck, a dry day with minimal traffic and guy is doing 40 mph, i had to drop several gears. the speed limit is 55 and most truck do 60. i have only had a CDL 1 year and 3 months but i have not had any accidents and i guess i know how to drive better then allot of these drivers with these mega companies.

when the heck are they going to start training properly lol

I think most examples of this is mega drivers. However I have seen ignorant dumb stuff from carriers most would not consider a mega. This is because a huge amount of today's drivers are simply steering wheel holders.

It's not just the mega's. My truck hood, stainless steel bumper, etc were completely destroyed by a definite NON mega a week ago. $17K in damage plus a few weeks lost revenue.

The driver that hit me was trying to park nose in to a spot TWO parking spots away from me. Idiocy isn't the sole perview of mega carriers. At least the mega carriers HAVE a training program. The small carriers, like the one that destroyed my truck, DON'T have ANY training protocol.

Judgemental much? We all suffer from the occasional brain fart and drive poorly for a minute... or two.

when the time comes you "think you drive better than a lot of those drivers", it's time to pack it up. you are way over confident in your abilities.

i been out here nearly 40 years, and i never think that i'm better than anyone else. each and every night, making my deliveries in downtown Boston, i have to watch EVERYTHING and take NOTHING for granted.

i'll bet dollars to donuts, you do my route, you'll be doing so with white knuckles and sweating profusely.

anyone here know of downtown Boston and the tiny streets with a 53 footer, will attest to that.

If he didn't take out the stop sign, what's the problem?

Maybe he's looking for customer entrance or turn.

That kind of attitude will bite you in the ### someday.

well i guess allot of that is trucking, quite a few of our own trucks have screwed up hoods, bent bumpers, and dented trailer skin. people just dont seem to care anymore. people are negligent and no one wants to take the effort of getting out and looking anymore..... or stopping what you are doing if it does not look right.

as far as local companies not having any training that's kind of an unfair statement. i did werner for 3 months and went to drive dump truck over the summer. when i went to walton milk hauling the owner took me out driving for 3+ weeks, he is a 40 year veteran on the industry and i can assure you both a better driver and trainer then that joke at werner that only had his license for 2-1/2 years. that would almost be like me training. im good enough to keep the truck safe but as far as training, i dont think im prepared to teach someone else to drive. the only thing the werner trainer really showed me was how to be used and abused; and just running miles off of my back.

the training i received at walton milk hauling was probably superior then that of werner. sorry. my boss himself is a darn good driver AND he also had me training with a former werner trainer, but one who had been driving 20 some years. yes we have a former werner trainer.
