Hey guys,
Got My CDL-A a couple weeks ago with the help of Pilot Trucking School in Fontana, Ca. I don't have any experience other than what i learned at the school which was just enough to get my license. Im ready to hit the road but the catch is im hoping to land a local gig (out of Ontario,CA). I'm i asking for to much too soon? is this possible? or do i just suck it up and go OTR to gain experience?
Thanks.

D you know how to back up that truck yet? Local jobs usually require a lot more backing skill than otr. Some of those local deliveries can be tight. If you do not know what the trailer will do when going backwards you will be at high risk of hitting something.
Just passing by and laylow909 Thank this. -
Do a Google maps search for trucking companies in your area. Start making phone calls, a lot of calls.
What kind of trucking do you want to do? Dry van, flatbed, aggregate (bottom dump, end dump, side dump), tanker, etc. There's a whole lotta companies that don't do dry van that are local. Construction companies, fuel delivery, etc. -

If you're insterested in food service, my company hires rookies and puts them in a bobtail for a few months before upgrading them. Its local and we're in eastvale (right next to ontario) pm me if youre interested

If you have no intention of going otr, think outside the box as it were..
Some local driving jobs that most overlook include
Roll off, (A and B)
Dump trucks (A pulling pups or B)
Plumbing wholesale (A and B flats and boxs)
Electrical wholesale (usually B)
Concrete trucks (usually B)
Auto parts stores (A and B)
Landscaping companys (A and B flats dumps ect..)
The list goes on. A good way to get moving is to hire on as a B (less need for experience) where they have both. Prove yourself a competent driver and ask for the opportunity to use your A...Just passing by, Lepton1 and laylow909 Thank this. -
