So, you need money to substantiate your claim in the Supreme Court case? I did a quick seach on 'find law' and found nothing. I suspect your mistaken, as it should be highly documented if the Supreme court did in fact contradict themselves in the way you describe. My major was Biology w/minors in Chemistry and Enviromental studies. You caught a typo(s) on the word 'safety' and that IS what your calling me on? All I can say is wow!

Don't you think it matters when dictating who gets 'authority' to deem something a Right or a Privilege?

Again, even if it is MY strong desire to my inalienable "persuit of happiness and liberty" that requires me to travel via my legally purchased and licenced vehicle...using taxed fuel. Does that change my "Constitutional rights"?

Doesn't this make the so called "Privilege" also my Constitutional "Right"???
Sheesh is a euphemism, used to express my contention of your previous post.

Nothing changes your constitutional rights, not even spending over $100,000 on a big truck and spending the money on fuel. Nothing but an act of Congress could turn a 'Privilege' into a 'Right'.

Let's just say again that you had it mostly RIGHT. Blond has nothing to do with it. My son has blond hair & he recently received his Masters degree & works for Cummins Diesel. Hair color is immaterial to these posts.

Several states have ruled that you forfeit your right to search without probable cause when you possess a CDL.

When were logbooks first required in Canada?

WOW.........what does the right to search have to do with it? It's the apples & oranges theory, and has nothing to do with a privilege to drive.

9th amendment. They don't really teach it anymore, but the Bill o' Rights was written as a limit to government, and anything not SPECIFICALLY granted to the government was reserved for individuals, and in limited cases, the states.
The question is not whether you have the right to travel. It's whether a bunch of bizjet-hopping, intern diddling bureaucrats and politicians have ANY right to limit your movement.
As I mentioned before, that is one of the favorite tactics of tyrants.

And, yes. Any 5th grade public school student will tell you that the government is God. That's what they're told every day.

Dangit... I was supposed to shut up about this...

I give up!!!! If someone as supposedly as smart as you can't distinguish the difference between a right and a privilege you'll never get it unless they don't study the English language where you attended primary schools. I'm through with my attempts to allow this distinguished gentleman to understand unless you're specifically attempting to instigate...........Bye all from this supposed idiot according to this other learned person to whom we are speaking/writing.

Well, we have the wonderful 'Safety Organizations' to thank for the additional restrictions. The ones that don't put the full details in about accident statistics.

My kids weren't taught that government is god in school, nor do I teach them that either.

The points being argued in here are beyond ridiculous and not something that is going to change without a whole lot of money to pay for the lobbyists to sway the over paid politicians to their way of thinking.

    Respectfully,

I realize that some of this is nit-picking on semantics. (ie Privilege vs Right).

    However,

Who or what governing body has/would deem driving as just a privilege? Under what authority? Why? Is it about control? By making it a "privilege" is it easier to regulate? Is it easier to deny access to the "privilege" to undesirables?

Will it end here? Will family size ever become a "privilege"? Will some authority dictate how many kids you can have? This, IS what scares me!

In closing I'd like to quote my college Gov't Professor.... "Power Corrupts... Absolute Power... Corrupts Absolutely"

    Peace

BTW: psanderson, we both used to work for the same branch DOT... I was w/ The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.:biggrin_255:
