I know some.nights youlle be stuck in traffic, and other days youll get a ton of millage and maybe pull an all nighter one day amd oposite the next. Is is possible to hit a gym and get your heart pumping on the road?
-
Well I have a little more respect for the gym rats then the druggies. Both, seem to question here wether they can keep up their lifestyle while OTR.
In general the answer is no. You will be working odd hours and always on the go.
Some truck stops/terminals will have fitness equipment, but the situation is less then desirable and no part of your schedule will be consistent. Keeping fit is important, but it isn't like you are going to be hitting the gym every day, or even every other day. You have to be more inventive.Justrucking2 Thanks this. -
Get a Battle Rope, you will look funny in the truck stop parking lot, but it will keep, or get you into shape. Easy to store and carry in a duffle bag.

Gyms are out here, but parking a rig at one is most likely not possible. If you are even close to one, which are normally in the cities where truck parking is slim to none.
Toomanybikes, above, is spot on. -
2 hours ago I saw a driver tooling around the parking lot on an oversized unicycle. I don't think flailing around with a rope is going to top that for looking funny.

It's almost impossible because the loads always come first. You have make on time pickups and delivery and still run legal and account for traffic and slow loading and unloading.
TA/Petr truck stops have like 8 small exercise rooms around the USA so they are hard to even get to plus you had to buy lots of fuel to get into the rooms. They don't offer a pay option but sometimes the door are not locked anymore because nobody uses them.
Then you have the waether to deal with cold and snow in the truck stop parking lot and hot in the summer plus you might want a shower after working out and if you don't have a shower credit, that $15 for a shower plus you might have a waiting list o get a shower.
In the summer you can smell all the piss drivers pour out on the parking lot. So it the not the cleanest place if you doing anything like using ropes that will hit the ground or push-ups.Toomanybikes and Justrucking2 Thank this. -
Yes, the piss... Forgot about that.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
I do a good 3 mile walk most days. There was a dude running, not jogging down same road yesterday.
There are lots of gyms in the bigger towns or cities you can go to.
A jump rope, set of dumbbells, and military 20 are pretty much the ticket for OTR life.
It takes effort, and you have to be pretty spartan about it in the winter.
Same with your diet.
Many of the TA's & Petro's have little gyms.
I make 3 of these at the house. 4 or 5 days out, you have to go ( walk ) to a grocery store, remake, just trash what isn't used. I keep 3 big ones, and make 6 big boneless skinless chicken breast in my ice chest.
Pears, apples, oranges, strawberries need not be refrigerated. I buy six at a time. Chunky soup, canned tuna, canned vegetables. I can eat all of the above out of the can cold, hot is better lol, but just like that salad I'm enjoying at Chez Fuel Island lol.
You'll figure it out. -
You won't get fat if you don't exercise, as long as you eat healty. Which means you have to pre make your own food and forget about truck stop junk

A few months ago i was sitting at a Pilot for a meet and turn, and watched two guys get out of a Prime truck and start doing calisthenics. I thought the pushups were a bit much considering their noses were inches away from the pee puddles.
