Glider sales don't build trucks, they just put them together, after they buy the truck and chassis from the manufacturer.
Here is a real life experience Fitzgerald does not even have tractor protection valves on hand to use or sell, because they order the trucks with everything already on it.
Anyone with an exempt truck stopped yet?

Yup, just like Freightliner/KW/Peterbilt dont build engines... they just "put them together" after they import the chassis parts from Mexico & China and anywhere that real cheap manufacturing happens.
Are you really gonna argue about this????

Nax, checking for clarification. I have checked all my 12.7s serial numbers, of course they are all 06R0, but here is a break on the manufacture date of the engines pre and post 2000, which is somewhere around 570000

I just recently purchased a Fitzgerald 389, I make sure it was under 570,000, but according to your information, all of the above engines would be exempt, regardless of the post 2000 build date, is that correct by what you are saying? -
@tate2133 ....well, well, well... that's some good data that needs validation.
I'm not sure that the "570000" implies. Is it mileage????
May I suggest you call/go to a freightliner dealership WITH the full engine serial #'s and ask them to print a letter for each of the serials. That will let you (and us) know for sure if what was shared with me is actually valid. -
06R0 is just the original prefix, has nothing to do with being pre 2000. The serial number itself determines that. When they reman one they add an E to that. So drop the E and you will have the original serial number. The 570000 looks to be close to use as a quick guide to decide yes your good or really dig deep

Above are the actual serial numbers and the dates are from the dealership, I have them the serial, they have me the date. The dates are in sequential number from production, so looking at the number, the December 31, 1999/January 1, 2000 has to be somewhere around 06R0570000 engine serial number. Now we know that there is no difference in these 12.7 engines, but I think they had to pick January 1, 2000 as a way to encompass all enginesnax Thanks this. -
@tate2133
I guess your data throws the "06R0" prefix out the window w.r.t a truck being a pre-2000.
Maybe that code simply helps determine if the engine has ever been re-manufactured by Detroit (06RE) , or someone else (not 06RE) -
Believe me, I wish that was true, that all those engines were exempt. Again, it makes no sense, from a Detroit engine perspective as regard to pre or post 2000 as far has hooking an ELD up to it, so the policy had to just have been a base for all engines makes and had to start somewhere. Im guessing it possible be the CAT engine since the 3406 is almost all pre 2000 and the 6NZ is almost all post 2000 ( although there are a few 6NZ's that are 99 builds)
-
The last 1999 Detroit engine had SN 06R0568297 so all numbers lower are older and eld exempt.
-
Ok. That serial # cut-off makes more sense that what the Fitzgerald dude told me.
I guess if any number below 06R0568297 goes back to factory for reman, it gets to keep the 9 digits of the serial #, except the fourth digit which is changed to "E"
I hope buyers will be aware of this little "E"...lol
