just a poll to see what all the drivers have found to be the best take along food that you can keep in your truck . not junk type food but decent stuff you can eat to save money on eating out all the time. and what methods do you use to keep and carry these foods?

My hubby has a fridge in his truck, so he is able to keep a decent variety of stuff. He usually has some sandwich meat, and I also freeze leftovers for him to take the next time he's home. He also usually has some peanut butter, bread, water, and of course a backup supply of coffee and creamer!

Im kinda keen on the little cans of either tuna or chicken salad. When I was in Iraq I ate those once a day instead of MRE's. Other than that Peanut butter is on my list.

With a good sized inverter, a refrigerator, microwave, electric skillet, and a toaster oven you can eat very well. I love it when the wife does a boiled corn beef dinner with potato's, carrots, and onions, in the Crockpot. She will start the dinner around 10 or 11 am and by 1700 to 1800 we have one FINE dinner. We carry a Tupperware tote with all her seasonings as well so we have great steak dinners, pot roast, and even lasagna.

Clean up is a bit tricky but with water, paper towels, and disposable plastic crock pot cooker bags it is manageable.

Since this is kind of on the subject, has anyone heard of or tried HeaterMeals? The box cooks the food for you, supposed to be better than MRE's etc. They have different entrees and sides, and one "model" that is supposed to keep for up to 5 years. I could care less about the 5 year thing, mainly want to know how they taste.
