Well, that's not entirely true, @TurtleRay. Any time you post a lane with a rate on ITS or DAT, that is used in their rate tracking. If you take a look at ITS's RateMate tool, as an example, the top box shows posted averages for a given date range. The bottom example gives reported rates paid.DSK333 Thanks this.

Being a carrier, I've never sent in a rate to ITS or DAT for any of the loads I've hauled. It makes sense to gather the data from brokers, since they know what the shipper is paying and what the carrier is getting. Maybe they only choose specific or random customers for their data.
-
Wrong. It comes from brokers no-one reports anything. They know that data direct from the source when the loads are covered. Truck management software. They're in the information business that's what they sell.double yellow and PPLC Thank this.

You really trust brokers (or anyone else for that matter) to decide what the numbers are before sharing said numbers with the carriers? I think that's a bad idea, sir. Way too much opportunity for fraud or theft by deception there. The entire process should be transparent for all parties involved. I'm not a greedy man personally and I feel the broker should absolutely get a piece of the pie BUT it's the carrier that should decide what's reasonable in the end. It's no different than leasing on somewhere and not getting a copy of the rate confirmation. Who knows what they're REALLY getting on that load?!
-
I'm just talking about which method they might currently use. I agree with transparency, but that's not the way it works. If DAT or ITS can tell what the shippers are paying, they're not going to be getting that info from the carriers. Whether we like it or not, the broker knows what both parties get.
DSK333 Thanks this. -
Agreed and that puts them in a very very precarious situation that should not be legal.

Man yall are special but hey i do this everyday and i am pretty sure i know how things are calculated. Do tell how you think a brokers credit score is produced? Nobody knows how much they was paid or how long it took to get paid other than who? The TMS provides days to pay? The TMS provides paid carrier rates to paid shipper rates? NO! Just because you or someone else has not filled out a credit report or had a phone call about some brokers payscale to you does not mean that others havent. 1/6,000,000 odds and those are mostly for nembies anyhow. But it is still how they calculate the DTP and score. Unless you get a bad report your score goes up or remains the same. Also if you lease on to someone and you allow them to not let you see the original RC you are a fool because you have a right to that information unless you was gullible enough to sign a contract stating otherwise. But the bottom line on rates being garbage is the carriers fault for taking crap rate freight. If i will not put it on my own trucks for rate a shipper tries to give me i tell the shipper. I will post it and if someone calls i tell them straight up they dont wanna pay on this lane for instance lane rate LaPorte,In to Front Royal,Va lane rate is $3.77 shipper wants to give $1.94 F that.
