I’ll list another article. A company driver can no longer deduct per diem. The only way you can get it is if the employer takes it out/pays it. It doesn’t affect owner operators. You can still deduct it on your 2017 filings but not for the year 2018 and beyond.
Ending the confusion over per diem
Loss of perdiem next year

If that’s true, I’m done truck driving.
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Why? Unless your itemized deductions are more than $24,000 there's no sense in leaving.KB3MMX Thanks this.

Yes, you are correct. I just picked up my tax returns this morning . Another deduction we lose is the ability to deduct CPA expenses and mine was $485.00..
I ended up having a chat with her and came to the conclusion that being paid via 1099 is the best way to go..
If that option is available to you then check into it..KB3MMX Thanks this. -
After talking to my tax guy I think there are going going to be a lot of surprises (not good ones) with this new tax deal that aren't being advertised by the politicians who pushed it. It was mainly for the rich and corporations, not us working stiffs.
Cat sdp Thanks this. -
We NEED a flat tax, this IRS tax nonsense and confusion needs to END.
ABOLISH the IRS ....
Whatever happened to Trump's goal to be able to do your taxes on a post card sized form ?
Pipe dream with the swamp and liberal media propaganda controlling WDC

I'm sorry, but this tax plan is mothered and fathered by republicans with zero liberal support. It's good for most business, very good for trucking carriers, somewhat good for the average "worker", bad for employee drivers who live on the road, and a push for most other OTR drivers.
"There's a shortage of drivers!" Really? Then why do you ram down their throats this type of tax bill that effectively penalizes drivers more, the more days they stay out?Last edited: Mar 15, 2018

A federal tax on goods purchased would be so much easier. No more income tax, only tax on items bought would fix most of this craziness that makes special groups for politicians to take advantage of.....
Treat everyone equal and everyone pays the same percentage.
A flat tax on income would be a start though.
Say, 10% for every person, no matter what they make in a year. No more playing the deduction game or special loopholes. The FED should be able to easily function with 10% of everyone's pay.
Maybe that's too high.. ? IDK.
Making things equal for everyone would stop this class warfare nonsense.
