    rand mcnally all the way!!
    large scale-bad :
they took the through state interstate miles off (plenty of room to put them too) very helpful planning!!
too many pages for one state if you need to look going down the road.
not laminated and flimsy pages. (had mine only a few months and the S Ga page is almost torn out)
the good things as stated above, easier to read. the city maps are larger too.
personally i will never buy the large scale again

    IronRydr Thanks this.

    Telco,
I do ride, and have been all of my life, except that I don't currently have a bike. My last ride was a Kawy Vulcan 1500 Classic. I bought it new and got rid of it at about 32,000 miles or so. Bass fishing fever bit me and I traded the bike for a bass boat. Hopefully, after I'm on the road and have saved some money, I'll be in the market for another bike. Do you ride?

Thanks to all that replied, especially those that have tried the large print format. I think I'll stick with the regular Rand McNally because of the deficiencies pointed out by the others.
    Thanks again!

I went to the local Barnes and Noble to try and compare the atlases in hand but they didn't have a single one. So I made the short fifteen minute drive to the Road Ranger and TA truck stops at I-90 and 20 in Hampshire IL and took a look firsthand. The only atlases they had though were the 2008 and the new 2009 laminated which were both pretty nice. TA didn't have any atlases, but the Road Ranger did. It was listed at $80, so I think I'll probably just order it online for $50 I think is what I saw it at.

    IR,
yeah I have a Suzuki DR650/HD Roadking, so I ride when I can. Right now I'm trying to learn all I can in trucking. Loving SoCal where I moved a year ago, the best riding bar none! Rode the Ortega hwy a few weeks ago, awesome!

Haha, I was just going to update this thread that I bought it online at the Rand McNally website. Like you said, $39.99+free shipping. Since I'm leaving for TMC orientation in 10 days I opted for the express 2-3 day delivery which brought my checkout total to something like $47. That is for the 2009 deluxe laminated motor carriers atlas, not the large print edition.

I'm a big fan of mapbooks, this one will get a workout. If I don't have a newspaper and I'm sitting in my truck it's not unusual for me to just open up the map book and start studying different areas. I picked up my laptop for the road yesterday. Really looking forward to getting started.
