If I decide to go out of state to get hired, how much money should I have at least before I’m out there? I’m going to want my own room for a place to stay. These companies offer meals, right?

usually they give you a room with someone else at a hotel. You get breakfast at hotel and lunch at orientation diner you need to come up with your self

You can never have too much money, so save all you can.

They will usually put you in a room with at least one other person.
I did not want that either, so I paid half the room rate to get my own room.
If you want a private room be prepared to pay some of the cost. So, have as much money on hand as possible.

Aramil is right about the meals, but...
The breakfast is whatever the motel/hotel provides. It is usually pretty simple, and with no real choice with the items.
Same with lunch. Whatever they bring in is what you eat.
Dinner will depend on what is within walking distance of the hotel, if they don't have a place.

I'd recommend at least $500 and if you don't want to share a room you'd need a bit more. Especially if you go Schneider because you spend two weeks in a hotel and one week with trainer.

That's my dilemma at the moment:
Schneider. One week in truck with trainer. Two weeks in hotel. (unique)
Werner. 2-3 nights in hotel. Up to two months team training with trainer in truck. (in line with other starter companies)

Keep in mind though if Werner don't have any trainers available (or any other company) then you'll spend longer in a hotel room waiting. They always take students on and don't even tell you this until you're already going through orientation.
