well I applied for a wireline operator job ... I got the job and they sent me to training... I did the training
but now they have decided I am too "smart" to send out as an operator so they want make me a perf gun loader and make up guns in the workshop... I know better than to say no thats not what I came here for cuz a job is a job and I have debt so I agreed to be a loader... I head out to midland and start next Thursday
they will send me details on the pay and hours this week but they still give me an apartment, however I am not guaranteed 100 hours since the shop doesnt work nights and such... I will let you know more when I know more
Ps I will also be a hot shot driver for them (automatic pickup truck with goose-neck)

Do any of you know anything about Gun Loader jobs and what kinda hours such they are or anything else I could be informed on?

    ur2ez83 and ShooterK2 Thank this.

I see them out on the jobs. I don’t know if they work shifts or just take naps in between stages, but they’ve gotta load up the guns and send em down to perf after each stage until the job is done. Probably not a bad gig if it pays ok.

no that is the job I thought I was getting ... Wireline operator... but they dont build the gun they just put primer cord maybe on it.... a gun loader puts the charges in and wires it to be ready for primer cord and also may put primer cord on depends on the gun . the gun loader works at the shop not out in the field but I will have 12-14 hr shift but only during the day the shop closes at night

Sounds like you'll be loading and maybe delivering guns and supplies to pad, probably not a bad gig. Just be careful and take your time, as well as follow every safety protocol to a T. Above surface gun detonations are a nasty thing to experience lol, and you probably won't get to tell the story if it happens.

yeah I am glad to be working and yeah the pay wont be quite as great but still good and I will be able to sleep in a bed every night in the apartment they pay for.. I dont have to dread the portapotty issues, dont have to be awake and ready for an obscene amount of time... and I will always be day shift so my sleeping wont be disturbed
not sure how many hours a week but have come to suspect 12 hrs for 14 days and then a week off will turn into 12 hrs for 11 days and 3 off after my loader training which is another 2 weeks... if that is true the money will be comparable and more regular than just as a operator
but I will let you know when I get more info

Not trying to be a jerk, but that is not why they changed your position. Sounds like they decided you would not cut it in the field and decided to change your position as opposed to letting you go. Gun loaders make about $15 an hour last I checked and just work in the warehouse loading. Sorry to bust your bubble.

well I start Friday and as for not cut out I had two job offers and this is the one I took since they said they needed it more... (still think they dont trust the guys in the field for me being female).... as for pay they did say the loader makes more per hour but I would get less overtime hours they dont guarantee 100 hrs for this job... but from what I can calc based on the per hour I found googling of 25-30 per hour at less hours is comparable to the operator not quite the same but still very large amount per year

    ur2ez83 Thanks this.
