Hey @TheyCallMeDave - For what it's worth, I don't think it will be too bad there doing P&D. It seems to be more of a problem on linehaul, because that's what they are advertising for most. I was never on the phone doing P&D because I never had time for a complete conversation. I didn't even bring a headset to work, just let it go to voicemail and call back at my next stop if necessary. Their phone restriction would be much more difficult on a linehaul driver. Good luck with your new gig, and keep us posted how it goes. Remember a positive attitude goes a long way.

    TheyCallMeDave and Cardfan89 Thank this.

You're right about that Bob. I'll definitely put my best foot forward and take care of business anyway necessary. I was thinking of starting a thread to keep track of my time there, to see how it correlates with the things I've seen in other threads, whether it be positive or negative. We'll see.

Haha, I couldn't help but chuckle. You'd think that whoever was in the role of administering driving tests, would be ready to roll in all conditions (obviously there are exceptions). I'd look at that as perfect oppourtunity to really see what a prospective driver is capable of.

Yep me and you think the same.

I didn't realize it but the young guy (mid 30s maybe) I was interviewed by is actually the owner and former driver. That's always nice when the boss man himself was a driver. At least he understands the stuff we go through out on the road. Not some bean counter that drives a prius.

Even though we hardly ever sleep in the trucks, maybe 3-4 times a month he said, the trucks are spec'd nice. Mid-roof cascadias leased from Ryder with tripac apu's. Plus if I have any issues the local Ryder shop is 10 min from my house

Sounds like a good outfit and I can't agree more on having someone whether it be the owner, or TM, outbound/inbound guys at a terminal that have prior driving experience. The place I'm about to start at has that. The TM, and the in-bound and out-bound guys were all former drivers for the company. I'm hoping I lucked out and got on at a terminal that has a good rapport with the drivers, as I, like you, can't stand some desk jockey telling me how to do things, when they've never stepped foot inside a truck. I don't mind criticism, or suggestions when the situation is called for, but I'm much more receptive when those things are coming from someone who's either A. former driver, or B. Has worked around enough drivers, that they have at least a good grasp of what the situation is.

Got my assigned truck today. 2009 crapcadia pre def dd15. 800k on the clock, ex wally world truck. Bumpers a bit beat up but other than that she's in decent shape. Interior isn't all beat to heck.

Got put on a dedicated run, Binghamton ny to Ayres, mass. Empty aluminum cans only 7k in the box

Well, as long as everything works on it, it’s just as well. :)
