So, my a/c started this intermittent thing this past fall where it would start blowing hot air and a short time later it would begin blowing cold air again. This would happen primarily when stopping at a light, truck stop, etc. I checked the Freon level and appeared fine around the 40 psi on the low pressure side. Then I found the low pressure hose leaking where it enters the sleeper. In addition the compressor is apparently seized now as I cannot turn it by hand after removing the belt. So I have replaced the leaking hose, both expansion valves, the receiver/drier, the compressor and all new O-rings/gaskets. I also flushed the system prior to re assembly and pulled a vacuum for 5 hours before adding Freon back to the system.
But, after adding 4 plus pounds of Freon I keep having the compressor cutting on and off as if it has low Freon. When the compressor cuts in it pulls the low pressure down to 30 psi and the high side is around 200 psi. I added 10 oz of pag oil as I was advised by the parts store where I purchased the compressor. However I did notice the compressor did contain some oil when I opened the box. How much , I don't know.
This compressor has a over temp sensor and I am concerned I have the improper amount of oil causing the compressor to shut down due to the temp. It will cycle on for about 7-8 seconds and then cycles off for 8-10 seconds
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. it's time to get back on the road and I don't want to destroy a new compressor

no expert here!
but sounds like still low on Freon... I was sure I had mine right, and added some more and problem solved..
( use real gauges, not the one on the can) (Naturally like a month later the fitting at the condenser let go, so I had to do it all over)
if I remember, they told me if some freon came out the low side oil will come out with it,...
IF that were to happen just add straight freon. i put the dye in to find future leaks.
Also was there an orifice tube u should have replaced while you had system open?Sarge6300 Thanks this. -
I was thinking the same thing as far as the Freon, But I was told 4.19lbs and I know I've added at least 4.5 to 5.0lbs. And the pressure on the high side leads me to believe it's full. As far as the orifice tube, I didn't see one, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there.
thanks for the help -
not sure if you have one ,,, Not an expert but check this out

Just tried to search for a 2011 orifice tube.... Not finding a listing for one so the expansion valve u already replaced should handle the function.... but no expert

Bad high pressure or low pressure switch?
-
Cascadia has expansion valve not orifice tube. Sounds like it is clogged. One of the easier trucks to replace. Have to pull existing freon out before installing new one then do proper vacuum after installation.
-
I hadn't thought of that. I know there is a high pressure switch near the cab expansion valve
Thanks -
As far as the expansion valves, I just replaced both of them. I guess one of them could be faulty ?

Is there some type of reset required after replacing the compressor, from an electrical aspect ?
