Eastern Freight Ways is a regional flatbed and van company out of NJ running NE regional. Their recruiter Mitch had a pretty honest sounding pitch.

Seems like they do a lot of Home Depot runs and advertised 60% preloaded with 10% no tarp on top of that running mostly gypsum board and lumber. Trucks don't even have chain binders only straps. Pay, mileage, and freight all seem good for NE regional. Home every weekend or 1 day for a full week out that adds to your next weekend.

My concern as a new driver is they would be putting me in a 6-7yr old truck for a year then a 2-3yr old one. Their FMCSA report shows a 25% OOS rate for inspections and they had 11 injury crashes in 2 years with only 150 trucks. My understanding is that in your first year CSA points are tripled and Eastern seems to have a bad reputation for tractor and trailer maintenance both as a company and their driver's leaving trailers with bad tires or other OOS level issues.

Anyone have experience with them or talked with Eastern driver's? Should I be worried about the higher than average OOS inspection rates? I know the onus is on me to pre trip properly but I worry these numbers reflect poor maintenance/support from the company.

Take a look at the trucks.

Then, you’ll start to understand the figures.

They run trucks that look like they’re ready to implode at any given time. Hence, their OOS rate, etc. I’ve never seen one of their tractors that was newer than fifteen or twenty years old, with parts and pieces falling off.

As far as the freight - I know when I worked for a large farm/factory they’d come pick up our shipments from time to time, and I see the vans around a good bit. Have never seen a flat being pulled by them.

I have learned that they now have only 2012 and newer trucks. They just dumped all the older equipment. Miles, cpm, home time, growth, training, benefits etc seem to be on par

They haven’t gotten rid of anything, as far as I know. Just saw one of their ancient jalopies running up 95 or 91 the other day....

You must be talking about NEMF.. Eastern Freightways has 13's and up there are a few 12's kicking around still. Newbies are getting the 13-15's for their 1st few months the upgrade to a newer one
