1978 Big Cam Cummins Missing after new Cam

    Hey all, i'm not very knowledgeable in this neck of the woods in the diesel world but i'm trying to help my stepdad out. My stepdad has just finished up replacing the cam in his Big Cam 2-400 I think it is out of a 1978 pete. After driving it for a little while he comes back and says it's missing, no excessive smoke from what I see unless he revs it at idle, and he just recently replaced the pistons and heads as well. Any and all help is appreciated, thanks guys.

    Did you set the cam/injection timing when you installed the cam,by correctly shimming the followers?

    Ok. Then if he has a dead miss,let the engine cool down,and use a thermometer gun,or your hand and feel the exhaust manifolds after startup and see which cylinder isn't firing. If you find a dead cylinder,and you are sure all your rack settings are correct,swap injectors with another cylinder and see if your problem changes cylinders.If ok,take a snap pressure reading at the plug on the fuel shutoff solenoid,eliminate the PT pump. All pushrods were checked for straightness and condition? Pretty straight forward engine to troubleshoot,just do the basics. Good luck.
