If you’re some sort of crook you’re probably not gonna try to steal anything from someone crazy enough to drive a truck for a living.
If you send a computer out to drive that might change.

I know it's probably a poorly written article but it sounds like a heck of a lot more labor is involved.
So three rigs (one of which costs 4 times as much as the other two combined), two drivers, a "safety operator", 4 forklifts, 4 forklift operators, probably a few managers and/or supervisors, 4 parcels of real estate (and all the environmental concerns that will entail) all within a state that can be traversed in a single shift by a single driver?
Yeah, that sounds efficient.
(I'm sure they'll just drop & hook, but they didn't write it that way so I'm being snarky.)Rollr4872 Thanks this. -
The fact that they can't get trucksc working properly with a human being the wheel is exactly why they won't get them working properly on their own any time soon.

This might put a little dent in Uber's plan:
Self-Driving Uber Car Kills Arizona Pedestrian
I wonder if they suspended testing of their self driving trucks as well. -
That’s what I’m wondering too. I think they’ve been testing self driving cars a lot longer so you’d kind of think that technology might be a little further ahead than the self driving trucks. I’m not sure if that’s the case or not but if it is you’d think they’d probably put a stop to their self driving trucks as well.

I'm thinking they're using the same software for both. Their dismissive attitude towards our line of work makes me think they think it's all the same. And I'll give them this, you don't need to exclusively use a truck for 80% of the mapping, but I think it'll be like the eLog software rollout. They'll get it 75% of the way done then roll the beta testing out onto the public.
I wouldn't trust a software engineer to build a bridge or an airplane. The old slide rule guys never found failure acceptable without multiple redundancies in place. Software guys just promise the fix will be in the next version.Last edited: Mar 21, 2018
