absolutely unbelievable DWI, one of our company drivers

    It scares most of us, but like with anything, the more you practice the better you get at it. He needs to grow some balls, man up.

    nobody here thinks i have ever "bumped a dock". twice a day. one of the farms is a live load and they have two docks. pick up the full trailer drop the empty at the dock. no big deal. i will admit i dont really like 53' trailers what im doing now are 45-48'.

    i dont want OTR cause no amount of money is worth leaving my wife and two kids for 2-3 weeks at a time. if i was 22 years old and didnt have anything to go home to sure why not. im likely to go back to dump truck for the summer. i dont care if haul blacktop, gravel, stone, dirt, sand whatever. hourly pay, the more hours i work the more i make. its that simple.

    for me to consider OTR i would have to make an insane amount of money. DOUBLE what i can make at home. we all know i wont make that.

    the thing that bothers me about 53' boxes is not really the length, the way they handle the wind. biggest tip over risk in the wind. the tanker, use your head and good judgement and you can prevent a roll-over, wind has little effect on them.. nothing a driver can do to prevent a roll over in a 53' van in heavy winds.

    i agree with the practice making you better part. a year ago i couldn't drive well enough to save my life. now its no big deal. im not growing balls and leaving my family NOPE. driving is not the big shock to the system, its lonely miserable nights sleeping in a little box in the back of a truck. no thank you. daycab or no truck

    You do realize many driving jobs these days are regional? Meaning home every week , many times during the week.

    those jobs that would get me home several times a week might be a possibility someday but right now im with my two boys at night playing mr.mom at night while my wife is at work. trucker by day and dad by night, and no its not easy. my youngest son is 4 month old i just did 4 diapers in the last hour. its exhausting by the time my wife gets home i get 5 hours of sleep and get up and do it all over again.

    i will not ask my wife to quit her job and sit home. she has too much to loose. state retirement and county health insurance.

    life is not full of easy choices.

    i have realized that this particular company is indeed a bottomfeeder. the only thing i can do is just keep going AND keep my own record clean. at least im still driving a CMV

    53 ft trailer doesn't mean OTR job.
    They are also local.
    Eventually your your going to have to deal with them.
    You think your somehow smarter then the rest of
    Us who've already done all this stuff.
    Your not.

    Your working 3 years for 2 years pay at a good job.
    Add that up over 10 years.
    You can't hide in woods forever.

    You called all road drivers stupid and they worked for free.
    Now your sitting on a milk farm for free and #####ing
    And complaining about it.
    While making half the pay. Now who's the stupid one.
    But you know everything so what's the point.
    You'll be on here next week complaining about
    Something else.

    i guess if i had a goal right now it would be a construction company that does construction in the summer and hauls salt in the winter with hourly pay. i feel like my current job shares allot of the problems OTR drivers have to deal with, except i dont have 10 hour breaks and 34 hour resets. unpaid time sucks weather your are OTR or local, i guess that's why i like construction.

    hauling milk and hauling van freight have one thing in common. both cheap freight that isnt worth anything. construction projects are funded by towns, cities, and state. not the same thing as hauling cheap freight (milk or van its all the.... same cheap freight)

    Exactly right. Not your problem and none of your business. If your boss is dumb enough to let the guy continue to drive he's either trying to slide him past his insurance company or he's paying a super premium.
    Either way it shows bad business judgement.
    In the mean time just shut up and drive your truck. You've already made up your mind to leave and I'm sure you'll be letting us know what a wonderful new job you find. Wonderful, that is, until reality sets in and you start to whine again about things you don't like.

    You’re right... But it is about dealing with the consequences and sacrifices that comes with those choices.

    I get your position 100%. Correct me if I’m wrong but we are in similar spots in life. I’m 23, have 2 kids (2, 4) and one on the way. Yes with the same woman and yes we are together. Only one was planned (i know... vasectomy. I’m on it). Point is, we, like you and yours, made the choice to have those kids even if they were initially an accident and terribly timed. Has that road been easy for you? Having to grow up and be at least some form of a man at 18 because now people depend on you? Sure wasn’t for me. But I did it just like I’m assuming you have. In this example did complaining and being negative about everyone around you ever help? If you said yes, then stop reading now.

    Point is, every action has a reaction. You seem to be looking at what’s right in front of you and kicking the dirt and complaining because you aren’t happy, satisfied, or someone else is doing something you don’t approve of. Think about what you want for yourself, your career, your family. Take that internal conversation and express it to your wife and find out what she wants, and what both of you want long term. Get the big picture. The rest follows, and even the hard stuff is easier when you know WHY you are where you are.

    Whatever you decide or come up with, STOP COMPLAINING AND BEING NEGATIVE. Seriously. You will never be happy and you will only bring others down by continuing. No one wants to hear it, including most on here. We know why we are doing what we do. Do you?
