I would have to agree 100%. Just because a company has a number of bad drivers, it does not automatically make you a bad driver as well. And Hats Off to you for making it good while at Swift. You have done what many others have failed at.

I was intrigued by the safety numbers you were giving about TMC and Swift being so close together. That is rather interesting. I would however be interested to know how many drivers each company has. In essence, if one company has twice the number of drivers that another has, then statistically, you have to work with actual numbers rather than comparative percentages. i.e. Company A has 200 drivers and 10 percent are bad drivers. Company B has 100 drivers and 11 percent are bad drivers. Well that means Company A has 9 more Bad Drivers than Company. See what I mean?

Now keep in mind, although I am making these numbers up, I think you'll find that in comparing apples to apples, I may not be far off.

Let's say Swift is running 2500 trucks and TMC is running 900, ok? Based on those numbers that I made up and the %'s you provided, Swift had 423 trucks put out of service and TMC had 153 trucks put out of service. But the percentages remain intact. However the argument could be made that TMC had 1/3 as many trucks put out of service. See what I mean?

What I am getting at is statistics can be laid out anyway the author wants the picture to be painted. I actually have a pretty strong background in statistical analysis because of previous jobs, and I can promise you that what I am saying is correct. The numbers can be used to make something look really good or really bad. It just depends on what you want to the numbers to prove - either the positive or negative side of an argument.

I am not arguing that each company may have it's problems, and drivers have their faults. That is obvious. But in a true "across the board" comparison, it would be necessary to bring all of the players in the mix. Personally, I think it would be interesting to see the results.

SO no offense nahmakanta. But sometimes people put numbers out there that may not necessarily reflect the whole truth.

Personally, I think TMC is a good company. But guess what?!?! I think Swift is a good company as well. The quality of a company is not created by the driver. And I think that with the amount of loads that Swift has going on, they sometimes need to deal with "certain issues" that not-so-busy companies don't. And the more drivers you have, the higher the number (not necessarily %'s) of complaints and complainers will be.

All I can say is that if you are still with Swift, and you are happy, then I am happy for you and glad you are doing well. And the same goes for anyone else that is working for and happy with Swift. Far be it for me to dictate what is best for another driver.

Today, I got my pre-hire from TMC. Yeah, I am tickled to be considered. But that does not preclude me from knowing that there are other quality companies out there.

Swift hauls flats as well. I will say TMC does have shiny trucks but it's still like any other company, it's all about the money. Swift is a good company, I've been with them a year. They're not perfect but no company is and for starting out in this industry, you could do a hell of a lot worse than Swift.

I do have to tell you that Swift doesn't run a lot of junky equipment like you try to imply as far as trucks are concerned, now some of their trailers leave a lot to be desired but they're safe, and if you find something wrong they will get it fixed. I've met a few TMC drivers and they seemed to like TMC. One of them didn't but that's neither here nor there.

I would recommend anyone to come to Swift if they asked. The stories you hear are mostly that, stories.

I passed a swift flatbed driver 4 times about 4 months ago on i76. Finally, he made a comment on the CB about how i was giving him a complex, we got to talking. He asked if my company (TMC) took are of me and i told him they did, i found out what swift was paying their "Flatbed" drivers. .26 Cents a mile, anybody that would work for that deserves to be broke. Fresh out of school, or not. I was averaging 45CPM after a month in my own truck at TMC.

No, it has to do with attitude. If you aren't willing to meet TMC's expectations when it comes to that, what else are you going to backstab them on later when you're out on your own?

I a, trying to get the thread back on track but cant shake the swift guys off

I might see you out in iowa i am leaving fri with a load outhere and will be layed over for the weekend at the terminal, well thats the plan so far. Our truck froze up the other night and we have been down since. I will let you know the plan for sure when i know. Good luck outhere and keep a good attitude and listen well.

Bangngears....If your still there maybe I'll run into ya. I'm leaving early Sunday morning for De Moines and hope to get there around 6:00pm, got about a 14hr drive to look forward to. Man am I ready to get the ball rolling. Sitting around here the past few days has been driving me crazy! To cold to mess around in the yard and nothing to do inside. I could mess around with my car but I don't want to start something and then just leave it unfinished until I get back. The closer the time gets the better I feel about my choice to go with TMC. If I don't see any of you out there or speak to you the rest of the week let me wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year!

I wasn't trying to say that they did. My point is, rules are rules. Just follow the rules. If your hair length is more important to you than a job with, in my opinion, the best flatbed company in the industry, then don't apply to TMC. I just don't see why someone has to bring that up as if TMC is doing something wrong.

Go somewhere that accepts long haired, dope smoking, hippy freaks!
