Congressman addresses HOS flexibility

No clue if it is the ELD, we are booming up here in Detroit and the surrounding areas. Busy every day of the week.

 

Same issues here with getting held up. The Big 3 is now ordering multiple trucks for what would normally take one or two. This is due to the ELDs, trucks are running out of hours and will not deliver. So, to compensate for this lack of efficiency, more trucks are ordered and the suppliers cannot keep up. This just started happening, and it is not uncommon to be third in line to get two racks of parts to run to a plant. The other two trucks ahead of me are getting the same product, and the same two racks going to the same plant. Wait times are getting rather ridiculous. You cannot plan for this insanity, and it is common for me to work well past my 14 several days a week.

There could be two different systems in the HOS revisions.

One for company drivers to make sure they’re not being extorted into being overworked.
&
One for the owning and operating crowd who should have the choice on utilizing the new flexibility revisions.

But as they continue in D.C to make laws that continue to replace common sense with more technology , we will continue to have our professionalism degraded and scoffed at.

Like what’s next when this dosnt produce the results they want? Require wrist bands that sync up to the eld unit to verify pulse rates to insure driver is awake or sleep. Who knows what these guys in the 10 mile box of d.c will think of next as a “quick patch” that turns into a permanent reality change for the rest of truckers.

But hey, “it doesn’t effect the economy driver - it’s just a tool to keep track of hours” ... hmm seems to me that those auto producers are going to recoup the extra cost of trucks in some fashion...

Higher wholesale price = higher retail price to consumer ... maybe lay a couple guys off? Which effects the local buying power in that community, which effects business’ sales, which effects the producers again who sell to the business; all parties in this scenario have employees too/ which may need to be let go; which perpetuates the cycle again...

Maybe they choose to source cheaper parts/ metals and etc to help curb the costs... which again effects the consumer

All because of increased shipping costs...

But no, laws like this dont effect the economy. Those guys are in d.c , they must have a great grip on micro and macro economics... many even a DEgree

 

Spot on, someone is going to pay for all of this inefficiency. I know rates are up, but like I have stated before, it is not due to real market conditions, it is the ELD and all of the uncertainty now involved when ordering a truck.

 

But if a real high paying load pops up the owner ops with “flexible” logging revisions will drive all night long after being awake all day, thinking that he will sleep after getting unloaded, but then decides to pick up his next load 100 miles away and then he can sleep.

That’s why we need elogs.
Unless the owner ops build their own private highways to keep away from us drivers that are well rested.

 

You have never owned a truck.
