    Now that's funny! :biggrin_2559:

They need a sign out front that says, "Long haired freaky people need not apply".

You know, like that old song.

Theres several other trucking companies that require your hair to be neat and above collar length. Even the gas palnt I worked in required your hair to be above your collar and your beard no more than 1/2" long. We didn't have moving machinery that you could get caught in, except for the gas compressor but you would have to really try hard to get in them, so it wasn't because of that. It was more for how the public would view us.

I saw a couple of women with longer hair, so I think they let the women have long hair. Which actually kills the case made for safety!

Depends on how they have to wear their hair. I don't have an answer. It is a double standard, there should be only one standard.

This bothered me in the military also. Why did women have different PT standards?

Women wer not able to do lot of the exercises we did in the military but they also had a few the men did not have to do. Physically women are different than men so most can not lift as much as a man, I say most because I have seen a few women that could put a man to the ground in a fight and could lift as much if not more than a lot of me. That is why women are not put in certain MOC in the military.

I have no problem with TMC's grooming requirments. It is still considered proper by sociaty for men to be well groomed and not have hair past their collars or beards that are to long. A man with hair down to his shoulders or longer is still looked at as a rebel because he is going against sociaties image of how a man should look. Long hair is basically put in the same boat as sleeve tattos and body piercings. Most companies that deal with the public don't want people to think their employees are unruly or hellraisers. I have several friends who have hair past their shoulders and they are really good people. One of my old school buddies now has a long beard down to his chest, hair past his shoulders and he is about 5'10 and wieghts around 270lbs. Every year he dies all his hair white and dresses up like Santa. He goes around to the local nursing homes and the hospital just to make everyone Christmas a little happier. He runs a backhoe for a living and whats funny is seeing him on that thing in his Santa outfit! He's something else. Point is he's a great person with a heart of gold. Now during the rest of the year his hair is dark brown (except for the grey in it) and he rides a wide glide. Little kids are affraid of him even though it is the same person the gather around during Christmas. It's been programmed into our sociaty that long hair means trouble, fighting, drugs, drinking and raising hell. This might not be fair but thats just how it is. During the days of Christ it was considered rebelous for a man to cut his hair! All through history men had long hair up until the late 1800s. So don't blame the company for wanting to try and keep a good image with the public, it a good business stratgy for them. Who knows in another 50 years or so it may be the other way around, if you don't have long hair the companies may not hire you. Or it could go even further and say if you have any hair on your head you can't be hired. That would suck because I have way to many knots and bumps from my youth to shave my head.

It all comes down to this. Who signs the checks can make the rules.

Don't like the rules, don't apply. Rather simple stuff really. I understand why they are in place. This man's customers. He wants his employees to properly represent his company.
Face it, we all go into truckstops. Look around. Soon you will quickly realize WHY TMC and others don't hire slobs. I would not want MOST truck drivers being my representitive in the marketplace. Just look at them. Guys like that, are great job security for me. I know that when I walk onto a recievers dock, that I look my best. Clean cloths, clean breath, and clean body. Also a clean truck. What is the fastest way to get pulled around back at the scale house? A pile of crap on your dash and a filthy truck. I keep it all clean. Once a week washes and my inside is straight before it rolls. But that is just me.

Bottom line is that TMC wants their drivers and equipment to represent the company in the best light. Who can blame them. If they washout 1/2 of the new recruits, so be it. The standard is set. I can appreciate that.

i think TMC'S standards should be a norm in the trucking industry. There is no reason why a driver has to look or smell like he has not had a shower in 2 weeks. I get a free shower a day and i use it even if i have been driving all day with no loading. We need to bump up the standards in the trucking industry and TMC has a jump on it. I applaude them. :smt038:smt026:notworthy:
