I dunno about that. When I was pulling bottom dumps, we worked lots of Saturdays, mostly dirt
but some asphalt. It wasnt part-time however. -
You will have issues with your HOS.
As far as I know, you have to log your work hours even if it's not the trucking job.
By the time you report to work for trucking, you have to take a 34 hrs reset to have the full 70 hrs available, but would limit you in your available days at the same time.
Coming back from trucking and switch back to your usual job immediately doesn't create a problem on the HOS. You can work "On Duty not driving" past your 70 hrs as long as you're not on the road. -
Contracted driver services works as a temp service in a couple places in the country. I did a job or two for them in arizona pulling reefer to local grocery stores.Chinatown Thanks this.

HOS did not apply to dumps. We worked from the moment we have enough light to see, and kept going until there was no light. At least 16 hour days. Easily 80 hour weeks if not more. In the work we did paving there was piles of money hand over fist.
However during the winter you stayed home on half pay (Unemployment) until it warmed enough to start paving again. -
I agree with what some others have said. Find a small local company and go to them with your idea. I’d be willing to bet someone will give you a shot. As long as you’re hourly on a time card you won’t have to be concerned with the hours of service.
Also with summer coming up you may find a small place that would be interested in rotating you in every 5th week so some of the regular drivers can get time off during the busy season. -
Hey guys temp services don't like this because when they need to tap a driver and he isn't around, then they have to go hunting to fill the customer's needs.
Long FLD Thanks this.
