If I'm going to eat at a truckstop .... which is very rare outside of breakfast, I'll eat at the Petro and have the chicken fried steak with gravy, mashed potatoes....more gravy and green beans. Healthy....hell no but every once in a blue moon a ton of crap ain't going to hurt.
Breakfast is usually at a truckstop in the morning...cereal just doesn't feed the hunger nor the pot of hot coffee I need to get running. -

I didnt read the whole thread, but Im gonna vote for Johnsons Cornrer in Loveland, CO. The food is good and the dessert is awesome. You can get a piece of Carrot Cake that weighs about 2 lbs for $1.98

I second the recommendation on the place and when I hauled out of the Bud Brewery down the line at Fort Collins I tried to always stop in for at least one cinnamon roll and a fresh mug of coffee in the morning. It sort of reminded me of a tiny little place called Tiffany's that used to be on the East side of the 15/138 junction a little above San Bernardino in Southern California.
Get their at the right time and they often had a pretty good pot of chili on and in the cold weather it was the freshmade biscuits and gravy that did the trick for me. I was just a skinny kid hauling hay and farm supplies in a rattletrap 25' flatbed back then but it was worth the time to stop and get a quick meal between stops. -
I am not sure of the location of the place other then I think it is on I80 in Illinois. It was a small place but there was truck parking and from what I can remember the food was pretty good and decent priced, it was called, I think, The Tiki Place. The restaurant was hooked to it or beside it and it had a different name I think, it was about 8+ years since I have been there or seen it so it may have went the way of the dinosaur. I used to get the lemon pepper chicken breast and coconut cream pie. Seems like all the good places are gone, the Starvin Marvin in, I believe the town is Seville, at I71 and I76 its now a Pilot, used to have a good cheesesteak. I think all the good places they had 15 years or so ago are pretty much gone and most of the drivers now all they have ever known are the J, Pilot, Loves, Petro and the T/A. Sad that it has come to this.

Ramage Farms in Hooks, Texas. Best BBQ I have ever had. I30 just west of Texarkana on the north side of the big road. You have to park at the fuel stop and walk across the street. Pecan wood smoked and it is awesome. If you HAVE to have sauce, I heard it was good. i don't touch BBQ sauce, I want to taste the smoke. Here you will. Ribs are insane, Brisket is amazing, and they do chicken too. Nice place, for sure worth the stop.

Okay this might be a silly question..But where (truck stops) can he find more things like salad, cole slaw, fresh veggies, fruit? I know it is not the first thing on his mind, but it is there he will eat it.

You could order fresh fruit, salad, fresh veggies a la carte the rest of the time. I asked them about buffets being yanked out of Flying J's around the country (due to what I observed in Carnesville, Georgia) and the waitress looked at me funny and said in essence "We don't plan to close our buffet and we don't close the restuarant, we are open 24 hours a day so people can access food in some way, shape or form".Last edited: Jan 6, 2009
