Day 25: Some a.m. road driving and p.m. backing. Did the DOT test route four times. Drove fine today. Got kinda bored tbh. Did a few hours of alley docks with no problems. Two more weeks to go!

Sounds like you've got it down pat after 5 weeks! Hope I can do that welll when I get started.
Who does your official DOT testing: a qualified tester from the school, a qualified third party, or a state test official? -
We go to the DMV office to be tested by the people there.
oldC10 Thanks this. -
Day 26: Two of us plus instructor in the truck today. I did two stints for 82 miles total. First was from New Bern to Swansboro. Swapped out drivers did lunch and whatnot. He got us through Emerald Isle and Morehead City. I took over just past Beaufort and took us to Pollocksville.
All in all a good day, but I had a few bonehead moments. First was coming out of a side exit of a truck stop to a stop sign. As I pulled out a car came from the opposite direction and I tried to get back in my lane instead of just continuing the turn. As a result I landscaped some mud pretty good.
Second I got the dreaded “auto fail” warning for shifting over a railroad track. That was just stupidity. I think it was a pretty quick stretch coming toward a red light. I was dropping 9th to 8th when I did it.
It was cold (for the south) and rained all day. Good rain driving, not really much of a difference to me driving-wise. Visibility was ok for the most part.
9 more class days til I test.
I’ve applied to Tidewater, Epes, Averitt Express, and Cypress.Gin86 Thanks this. -
Day 27: Short day due to “weather”. Lol these southern folks crack me up. Anyway stayed in practicing trip planning. Yuck.

Yeah, any forecast of snow or ice is taken pretty seriously. Don't try to go to the grocery store, there will be a stampede that wipes out the milk, bread, beer, etc.

Day 28: Before lunch we did the usual backing, but with the added bonus of all the cones a foot closer on each side. After lunch a cool little course. We lined all the trucks up truck stop style. Then you pull out go around and do an alley dock. Pull out from that and parallel. Then go back around and offset/straight back between the trucks again mirror to mirror. All with the cones still closer. It was a lot of fun!

I didnt read the whole thread so it may be answered but, did you apply for any grant to help pay for tuition? I went to a Technical College to get my CDL. With the Pell and hope grant i got, my out of pocket tuition cost was 6 dollars, yes im serious. The cost was a little over 2 grand but the grants paid for virtually all of it. btw, where in Georgia are you going to school?
-
No. I already have a degree (BSBA) so grants aren’t possible. Paid cash. I’m in North Carolina.

Day 30: Drove. Did about 3 hours total. Smooth sailing. Entering the final stretch, one week to go!
