I'm looking at a truck with a '93 (I believe) Detroit Series 60 DDECIII 11.1L. The guy says it has 400 hp but when I researched online and asked a Detroit guy they both told me that this engine can't be pumped up over 365hp. Is there any way to get more power out of this engine or is that pretty much it?
Can I get more power out of 11.1L early DDECIII?

It may have been the DDECIV that went to 400HP, but I think most of it was to let the engine rev to 2000 rpm, instead of the 1800 that the older 350/365's had.
And at one time you could reflash the ECM to upgrade them, but that might have been from II to III.dhtrucking Thanks this. -
I am told you can have it at 365h.p # 1800 rpm or 350 h.p. # 2100 rpm. Everyone has told me you can not upgrade, all the dealers. e.t.c. but you can upgrade the e.c.m. Erich & Brad can do it & others also.

How much does it cost to upgrade the ECM and how do I get ahold of the guys that can do it?

I had my '96 11.1 DDEC III uprated to 400 HP... it was a great engine.

I also had my '95 DDEC III uprated to 400, as did a friend of mine. You have to call Detroit instead of a dealer. Then you may have to insist there really is such a prigram.

Know this is an old thread. But found last night, that a 11.1 when upgraded to a DDEC IV ECM. They only have the 400 HP 1350 Torque program for it then. Seen a lot of info on the 365 HP up rating. And Read where some in the RV's had the 400 HP 1350 ratings. Then found the info where when you upgrade to the DDEC IV you only have the chose of 400 HP with it.
Mine has the DDEC IV ECM on it. Guess it being 400 HP and 1350 is why it pulls so well. -
The 365 only went to 1800 rpm, and the 400 went to 2100.tnpete Thanks this. -

Mines 365 then, as it only turns 1800. That is at 78 MPH.
