Thought it was Bondo experience?!
Newbies there, after getting some experience under their belt, move on from Swift. Drivers with any significant experience (as in having 'been there/done that') wont put up with being pushed around or harassed....a Simple FACT!
-
No, to much bondo would bust the scales. Duct tape is quicker and lighter.
-
Yeah, Bondo not too good on air lines.....

Driver's Important tools:
Duct Tape, as mentioned
Baling Wire (for a 'more permanent' fix than Duct Tape)
Epoxy Putty (made a trlr wheel hub oil-seal outa once't)
White spray paint (to paint over old Hazmat stickers on trlrs that wont come off)
Channel Locks (tongue-in-groove), for the right tool for the right job..
more TBA........

It is the same thing they did last year to help trim the fleet. A new student has the academy time and then mentor time which allows time for a truck to become available. An experienced driver will need a truck right away and in the trim mode, they don't have them.

The 2 accidents that I had to "umpire" in the parking lot of the truck stop I managed BOTH involved Swift trucks. Coincidence? Maybe...

Knowing nothing about any specific trucking companies when I started, I was initially surprised how tongue in cheek truckers were about Swift. I thought they were joking when they would REFUSE to park next to them, or even move if one parked nearby. I watched numerous times during my parking lot check, as lone Swift trucks were parked, in the distance..... Now I wonder!
Just an outsiders observations. -
cool! That means I will get some peace and quiet when I park for the night.

Swift chooses high risk/low pay driver over low risk/ high pay driver. Hmmmmm.....
P.S i know $.42/mi is not that much but i guess $.26/mi looks better to swift.Last edited: Dec 26, 2008

??? soooo...... swift wants students over experienced drivers. -
I am an experienced driver who recently hired on with them. However, when they move to trim the fleet, it is easier to do it by freezing experienced driver hiring and allow attrition durng the lead time to help make the trim work. Also, we were told in orientation that they will be limiting academy students in the year ahead.
