24 hours Fitness and Anytime Fitness would be your two best choices for a decent all around true gym with a plethora of all around total fitness options. Otherwise, if you're just looking for one that has cardio options; why waste your money? A good cardio routine can be done anywhere anytime without a treadmill or elliptical for free.

If you're into true strength training and/or body building Planet Fitness will be a disappointment to you. Most don't have Olympic free weights and the ones that do will throw you out for grunting. Anyone that pushes for that last rep knows it's nearly impossible to not make sounds during the valsalva maneuver. Planet Fitness is incredibly ignorant and their discrimination tactic marketing strategies are deplorable. Just plain ignorant. Imagine if there were a gym that used wrongful stereotypes that made fun of fat people? The outrage would be staggering no doubt.

Planet Fitness does have dumb bells, as well as equipment to do bench, squat and dead lifts. Most Planet fitness facilities have HammerSmith weight machines as well. It all comes down to personal preference and goals.

I despise planet fitness due to crap like that. I spent the money and have my own rack, bars and weights at home so as not to deal with fluffy snowflakes at the gym on their stair climbers. Sucks when you’re on the road missing workouts though. Hotel “fitness centers” generally suck since they only have up to 50# dumbbells, and a cable machine designed by an out of shape high school gym teacher.

    A gym without a squat rack isn’t a gym.

I’m a member of anytime for when I can’t make it to my main gym.

Anytime is cool for what it is. Some are better than others but they all have free weights and squat racks.

With time you find which ones have good barbells etc.

Your diet should be just as important as your routine. Actually, I'd say it's more important.

    It’s more important I’d say.

I feel weak as hell when I eat garbage or not enough.
