As others said plan better. No, you don't get a ticket automatically. The only place your log goes is to your company's logs department where they are retained for the required length of time in case of audit. If you get stopped with 8 days you might get a ticket. All I ever had them look at is my current day to see it's reasonable. You could get one with a pet peeve going through it with a fine tooth comb but the violation is flagged so they don't have to look that close.
Sometimes the planning better is your company. You put in with enough time for 2 hours loading/unloading and still able to make it to a truck stop. 6 hours later they're done and you're out of hours. They tell you that you have to leave. No one can actually require you to violate HOS. Tell them, tell dispatch you're not driving anywhere. You have specific protections from retaliation for refusing to drive in violation of HRS. So if you're stopped out of hours, or they catch the violation in your logs you, and you alone, are responsible for that ticket. When your hours are up you stop. Well before that you should be notifying dispatch, Houston we have a problem. What they say on the phone doesn't matter, get it in writing, across the QUALCOMM.
Is there a "BUFFER" to get to the next truck stop when the driving as no more hours ?

Let me put it this way cause I see "plan better next time" phrase repeated to many times.
Few days ago I was driving my load. I had two more hours of driving ahead so I was not worry about the time. Few minutes after I checked the time left for the day the traffic comes to a stop. Behind me cops showed up with flashing lights, stopped the traffic behind me diverting the traffic towards the exit.
I stayed there for 1 hr and 45 minutes parked on the first lane because of an accident.
Please don't mention to have used that time as sleeper or off duty as it is illegal.
I was on an interstate and no place to stop a big truck for the next 50 miles with less than 15 minutes left on the clock. I had the truck path opened and I could not believe there is no parking place(NOTHING) for 50 miles when I needed to stop asap.
C'mon, tell me how to plan better next time.easytopleez33 Thanks this. -
I’ve always wondered if anyone got popped for being logged off duty during their inspection.

"1 hr and 45 minutes parked on the first lane because of an accident"
is fairly common these days...
FYI, don't make excuses &
just plan better next time! -

1) First, pull over. Truck has to be stopped.
2) Turn on radio to 1600 AM
3) With your RIGHT hand, extend your little finger, and use your index finger to turn the radio off and on six times. The "low washer fluid" light should start blinking. If not, return to step 3.
4) Adjust the right side mirror all the way in.
5) Step on the brake six times. The washer fluid light should stop blinking. If not, key off and return to step 3.
6) If the light goes out, your buffer switch is now reset. If you require additional buffer, you will have to perform the sequence each time.
Hope this helps........InTooDeep, Moving Forward and not4hire Thank this. -
