Attention to detail, driver......
Good thing you had an earlier model. There was an ECM glitch in the later models that interpreted "not allowed to DRIVE" as "not allowed to LIVE", and after the steel plates shot up the cab would fill with cyanide gas. I believe the reflash is still a warranty covered procedure for those models....
Is there a "BUFFER" to get to the next truck stop when the driving as no more hours ?

But what if you get stuck, admittedly, it doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen, sitting unmoving for 2 or more hours does kind of screw up your day.
I can usually find a place nearby, but I am regional. And limited destinations, as well, so I know the area well. -
So what does planing ahead do when your 10 hrs in on drive time and you encounter an 1:45 delay because of traffic or other.
I like I’m sure others are long haul we have 11 hours of drive time to get it done the on duty time doesn’t come in to play most times.
Please explain. -
And to the guy that said that doesn’t apply to the 14 hour part, show me that in the regulations. -
Yes, you absolutely can drive even though the EOBR / E-log tells you that you can't. Drive until you find a spot to park, and then annotate your log with the reason why you went over hours.
You'll have to answer to your company about it later, but it can be done. It's up to your company whether or not you're penalized for it.
Don't do that on the regular, and you will be fine. -
I am fully aware of 395.1.
The point is you can’t trip plan yourself out of the un for seen.
Trip planning and any other planning is only successfull if all variables that you planed on remain constant til you reach the end of the plan.
Dot 395.1 was written specifically because the regulation writers knew that you can not plan for all the
ever changing variables.
The blanket statement made by some that planning better is the answer to all situations is just not accurate.
When I was a kid I planned on being six foot tall.
I followed the plan meticulously.
I ate everything I was supposed to and got plenty of exercise and sleep.
In the end I made it to five foot ten because of that one un controllable variabile I couldn’t plan for its called genetics. -
There's also an adverse driving conditions exception that will allow you to drive up to 2 hours beyond your 11 hour limit if an UNEXPECTED event occurs. Rush hour traffic in Chicago is not considered an unexpected event, nor is a forecast blizzard along your route. And you can't use it to extend your 14 hour limit either.
