I understand that it’s one liscense. I specified that it was my PERSONAL vehicle because it does make a difference as far as points, severity of consequence, etc,. Does it not?

There are some similarities and differences in regard to the amount of fines. However if you get a moving violation YOU are going to see it impact your CDL.

I contacted a lawyer fairly close to me (40 miles away). Hopefully I hear from him tomorow and he is available to help.

I’m not making excuses for any of this. I don’t believe anywhere in here have I made an excuse, nor do I intend to. I know full and well I was in the wrong on 3 different accounts. Luckily I was only charged for one.

The question in this post is about minimizing damages from my screw up, and how this works in general with a cdl.

Thanks to everyone whose offered helpful responses

I’ve never had a license in a state that has a point system so I can’t speak to that.

Back in 2010 I got a ticket in Boise. I was bobtail going out to pick my trailer up at Western. I turned off a side street which was a 45 limit. Saw the motorcycle cop, didn’t think anything of it. Get pulled over because the street I was on was a 30 zone. Money grab in my opinion, something about unmarked streets in Boise being 30, only no signs telling you that. My ticket was for 47 in a 30. I paid the fine in full. When I mailed my check I wrote a letter that basically said “hey I was in the wrong, here’s your money, I’m not trying to get the fine reduced, but if this shows up as a 17 over it could really really hurt my livelihood.” Goes through their system and shows up on my MVR as “local speeding”.

The other 2 charges are small potatoes compared to a 15+ over...... he didn’t do you any favors...

If he wanted to give you a break he could of written the speeding for 13 over....

Justice may be blind but she ain’t cheep.... you gotta fight this ticket. It’s gonna cost Multiple hundreds I would bet....

You are correct to add to it 15 mile an hour over the speed limit is careless and reckless driving your CDL is going to take a big hit get the lawyer on it right away

talk to the prosecutor's office. tell them you will pay the fine in full, if they can reduce it from speeding to say a broken tail light. don't overly beg, you may not even need a lawyer, but if you do, same applies, pay the fine IN FULL but to a reduced charge, broken tail light, inop headlight, cracked windshield......

all they want is the money

good luck....and remember, your livelihood depends on a clean CDL.

Hmm... I think I’ll start with that Monday before going forward with the lawyer. My father in law worked for the sheriffs department for a long time and he recommended calling the DA and talking to them.

Yet again I’m learning from my mistakes. I really need to find a better way of teaching myself...

Maybe so but certain states definitely make it clear they acknowledge the difference. So there IS such thing as a personal vehicle in that regard at least. Sometimes this can help, other times not so much.
