To me trucking started changing in the late 60s. You youngsters don't remember how it used to be in the latter part of the evenings in most truck stops. Some of my best memories are of sitting at a table beside my old man drinking a pop surrounded by other drivers all sitting around tables (not driver counters) shooting the bull and giving the waitresses pure hell. ( of course they gave it right back). Today drivers sit mostly alone playing with their electronic devices.

This would probably be the biggest example of drivers not caring about anyone else.
Followed by the fuel pump parkers.

I have been slowing down quite a bit to let these clowns by in their governed trucks, annoying as hell. I don't go anywhere, 30 seconds ain't going to kill me and the fuel is to expensive.

I can't tell you how many times in the past few years I've tried to notify other drivers on the radio about flat tires, chains dragging, Etc. You try to get thier attention with the horn or holding microphone up in window( used to be universal sign language for turn on your CB) and you just get a dirty look.Ok... it's your ticket.

Ugliness is everywhere; even in church.
Don't believe everything you see on YouTube either Over 3 million truck drivers in America and very, very few post on YouTube or even watch YouTube. Most just do their job and mind their own business. In all the years I've driven, I've never watched television in the drivers lounge or sat at the coffee counter in truck stops. I prefer the solitude of the road and the solitude of being inside my truck with the curtains closed at busy, crowded truck stops.

My last few years driving I did mostly the same. I started hating all the politics being discussed (still do). I would try to find a quiet place to finish out my logs and get all my paperwork ready to scan in. If someone would sit close and start a conversation I would speak. Another thing I started getting tired of was all the people sitting around those tables and counters that stunk! Much different world today. You had to have experienced the world of trucking pre 1970 to understand what I am talking about.

The good ones are still out there, you will not notice them, they are the ones dressed correctly, showered, groomed, polite, they probably held the door for you and you just cruised on by without a thanks. We only notice the extreme crazies and talk about them so it has become a contest, Jerry Springer went live.

What's that, the fool with the camera following the truck in front way, way too closely?

Best to get a movie of whats going on outside, then next time you see the kids..no matter how old they are now, show it to them and tell them if they act like that the beatings will start. Never had to before but act like that is not acceptable.. But mostly its just people like you and me trying to get through another day without any bs.

    Chinatown Thanks this.
