Lowest quote I've gotten was 3900 and flatbed is my intention. Been talking with Tropical as well about running shipping containers but I have yet to figure out what "zone pay" is and if it would be worth it.

I found power only in Florida. You will be doing lots of loads to the I4 but not a lot to Miami but to Miami some. Let me know if your interested.
-
Wow 3900 is steep! It’s doable but would make for a rough first year. I also talked to a guy named Denis at Tropical. Figured it may be a decent gig since I live a few miles from the port. The zone pay is where all loads going to a particular zone pay the same. seemed questionable and he wouldn’t even talk rates without an approved motor carrier application. So I just moved on. Judging by the trucks i see going to and from on MLK Blvd I doubt the pay is good.

Ive done lots of shipping containers , some call that intermodal. There is GOOD money in it but if your interested in TRUCKING like a truck driver you probably wont like it because i have found it is mostly short haul. I have found most drivers just want miles.

You can’t do power only without being leased to a company or having your own authority. Did you say $3900 for liability or are you confusing the PD insurance you bought already with liability which should run you $15-30k per year under your circumstances.
-
Are you sure about that ? I think you may be confusing what power only is with leased on to ....
-
I assumed he meant 3900 a month for liability, trailer interchange, ect
-
I did.

We dont want miles,.. We want to be paid for our time. Time - money. I prefer the shortest miles possible with the highest rate possible. I95 in Fla is a tough sell. I stopped chasing miles a long time ago.
The uneducated, naive, rookies are the only ones who will explore the snake oil salesmen trying to move cheap loads in Fla. They want to be home daily and will soon discover the difficulty of what they are searching for. Been at this a few years now,.. and if I could run local and be home daily and still earn enough money to live comfortably I would be doing that. Fla is just not the place for that. Not at the level I want to play at.
A good base rate is $1000.00 a day. Doesnt matter if thats 150 miles,.. or 400 miles. Anything that will add time, expenses or any other costs will be marked up and added to the rate. $450 from Tampa to Miami is a joke. $700 from Jacksonville to Miami is a joke.
Shippers in Fla will scoff at this,.. and thus the reason I dont go south of I4 and almost always dead head back out to better lanes and better money.
HurstDrDieselUSA, tommymonza and Dan47 Thank this. -
I just leave tropical in january. what did they tell you when you call?
