Okay. Good luck with that attitude. God and our founding fathers never said life was going to be without risks. And they also said happiness could be pursued, but not once did they ever say happiness was guaranteed. Furthermore, who said automation was our destiny or our path to happiness?
There are limits to everything. And with many things, we are pushing those limits. Just because we can is not an indication we must today. Tomorrow, perhaps

I know thoughts and prayers aren't going to fix the problem.

What problem? Drunk or texting drivers or computer code that can't be written to deal with every possible situation that can arise in the real world?
I'll take thoughts and prayers and best wishes over the fallible and misguided and corrupt leaders at Uber and Google and other technology companies, any day.

Rollr4872 Thanks this. -
Why can't code be written to deal with any situation that arises? Computers are already capable of storing more information and faster processing speeds than humans. It's just a matter of learning from these events, the same way they try to update roads and traffic controls to be more efficient in problematic areas.
Uber Victim Stepped Suddenly in Front of Self-Driving Car
Autonomous vehicles shouldn't do 38mph in a 35 zone. But it's looking more like this would've been unavoidable even with a human at the wheel. -
Maybe, maybe not. I can tell you that after you get some experience you learn to pick up tell tale signs that people are about to do something. Whether it’s making eye contact or possibly noticing they’ve got headphones on, or if the front tire is creeping forward etc etc. The point is it’s too subjective to say this would happen either way.
Autonomous trucks aren’t as close as people say. I’ll start worrying when they can program a GPS not to run someone into a lake or down a boardwalk. Among other issuesRollr4872 Thanks this. -

What you dont understand is, this is just a warning for what happens when the sensors fail, software crash. Just think about it in a big scale 80k pound truck driving into stopped traffic on an interstate 70mph.

To play devil's advocate, human drivers do this almost every day somewhere in America. But that said, even the best code and hardware is going to "fail" in sporadic situations because it either was not recognized or properly reacted to by the machine.

Turns out the Uber driver-assistant fat blob who is on her phone is an ex-felon with multiple traffic tickets. Oh and“she” used to be a he.
