Truck is 387 Pete with 435 Cat - Acert C15 ... I have 2 problems and have been to the shop already for both of them .... PLEASE HELP !!!
1)Fuel will move from RIGHT tank to LEFT tank ... I have to stop every 3 or 4 hours and turn off the RIGHT pickup line - within 30 minutes all the fuel that went to the LEFT tank will return to the RIGHT tank ... then I turn the pickup line back on and within 3 to 4 hours I have to repeat procedure .... I just put the truck into a Peterbilt shop and they replaced the splitter (I believe) which is behind the transmission ... they said it has butterflies in it which can get clogged easily .... the problem is that this didn't fix the problem ... any suggestions would be helpful
2)At first, I could not turn the wheel left and then right at a dead stop - it was impossible ... you had to physically move the truck foward or backwards to turn the wheel ... but other than that power steering was ok ... I put the truck into the Pete shop and they replaced a slave valve that they said was faulty ... It was silky smooth for about 5 minutes and then bam ... no power steering at all now ... please help - any suggestions would be helpful.
I went to a Pete shop instead of a TA in hopes that they would fix it correctly, which they didn't ... if anyone has any suggestions on what I can do to fix these 2 problems please let me know ... I would be most grateful.
Got 2 truck problems ... please help

I have seen people put restrictors with 1/8" holes in them in the return lines to get the tanks to stay the same level.
The thinking is that both lines are now under the same pressure and will flow the same. -
Is the tank that is filling up vented the same, a simple thing would be a missing gasket on the cap and the other one still there, or possibly a hole popped in a seam weld at the top of the tank.
-
You need to take the fuel lines off completley and blow them out with compressed air, my pete did the same thing till i actually un zipped em from both end and shot the gunk out of it, i also replaced the spillter valve on mine and it didnt help either.

just BSing ya.
My old boss would run a seperate line from the bottom of one tank to the bottom of the other tank this made them equalize no matter what. -
I agree with 2hellandback. My '06 Pete does fill the right tank more going down the road. I just installed a line from one tank to the other. The splitter valve has had problems ever since it became standard on the trucks. If I were you I would just put the line in and if the splitter gives you fits in the future just replace it with a T or Y fitting if you can find one.
As far as the power steering, I can't give ya an answer besides find a alignment shop or someplace that specializes in it. The stealerships are becoming just parts changers. There still are some good mechanics at the stealerships, but way to many more bad ones...even worse at the TA, Pilot, and the Petro shops. If ya ever get up here in northwest Ohio I can guide ya to one heck of an alignment shop that should be able to fix ya up. -
My 03 Volvo had this fuel tank problem. The fix was; each tank had check valves which vented air screwed into the top of the tanks, one side was clogged. We unscrewed them and cleaned them. Everything works fine now.
southernpride Thanks this. -

I have seen fuel lines damaged on the inside where the fittings end.The inner liner of the fuel line acts as a flap and will cause all kinds of problems depending on which line it is.
Don`t have a clue what is wrong with the power steering.Sure is hard to find a shop with an "actual" mechanic instead of parts changers.Good luck. -
It's hard to find actual mechanics for cars too.
rocknroll nik Thanks this.
