I agree...
I'm too old and unmotivated to try & spread my wings. I've already started trying to figure out a way to survive on early S.S. benefits combined with other means
Guys like my previous boss with a fleet of 150 trucks inherited the business from his dad who inherited it from his dad.
Same with my first trucking company, May Trucking. Grandfather passed it onto his son who will most likely pass it onto to his daughter, if he hasn't already.
It was old money...
Trying to get to that level today would be a very difficult task. Not saying impossible, but very difficult.

Hiring drivers and adding trucks could be the only way to get out of the truck and quit driving full time. I noticed that it never ends on 1 or 2 trucks, it has be more and once it gets to the point of 5 trucks or more, owners drive much less and they become bosses, not much driving but commanding. The expansion continues though, and it can grow all the way into quite a large fleet pretty fast or gets back to square one - just one truck. I was amazed by seeing people, quite a number for that matter, in my own surrounding, to have been able to build full fledged fleets(with terminal, warehouse and office personnel) in the course of 5-10 years....from a 1 truck and trailer to 40 trucks or more.

Yep. Been busy. I’m switching ELDs from Big Road to a company called Coretex. Big Road was bought by FleetComplete and I’ve had lots of problems since. Getting maintenance done on the truck and trailer. On my way to S.C. right now.

They acquired BigRoad over a year ago.
