Is there anyone on here that is in Alberta moving cans? I am in Edmonton and have an opportunity to work for a company moving cans but have no experience doing this. I am just looking for some in site. How you like or don't like it etc.
I was told an average day would be 10 moves, about 9-10hr day and $700. This would be on average 250-275km driven.
I did a search on here but couldn't find much on the Canadian forum.

Thanks for the insight. The company I am looking at is all owner/operators, at least that is what I was told. I did happen to run into a guy dropping and picking a load up from the warehouse I currently work at and tried to get as much information out of him as I could. He was in a hurry but said he has been doing cans for 8 years now and likes it. Likes the home time and said pay was ok (ok to him might be terrible to me or could be amazing to me) so didn't help a lot.

Red flag.BigHossVolvo Thanks this. -
10 loads a day, our of CN or CP is a day dream! Even the CNTL trucks can't do that. Companies like Pro-formance Intermodal, Yellow Dog, Rig Logistics, New Way, TranX/CanX cant match that. When I was at Bison, they tried some can work, lost their ###, now they only send company day cabs paid by the hour; since no one else will do it.

I talked to a couple more drivers that have been delivering to our yard throughout the week. Most have been saying 8-10 moves a day. I misunderstood the first driver on 10 cans a day out of cp and/or cn yards. I guess how it works (at there company anyways) They bring a can to customer, thats 1 run, pick up a empty can at same customer or get live off load of can you just brought and that can is a second run to take it. Paid per run. All drivers I have talked to are from the same company and all owner operators. They have also told me that you don't get any wait time pay until 1.5hours and a lot of people know this so you will have a lot of 1 hour and 20 min wait times, so no pay for it.
I really like the idea of a local job as I have younger kids and enjoy going to there sporting events etc but I guess there is no point if the local job doesn't pay enough to put them into sports.BigHossVolvo Thanks this. -
Another great options is Martin Brower, buddy just got on with them, the first 6 months is sketchy, but once he got his own route (vs fill in) he is killing it; prob a retirement job he figures.rtaylor15 Thanks this. -
Thanks for this info! I will look into both.
